bamboo= brew !!!

Hi everyone!

I have not being posting recently as I had major exams and a lot of potential adventures/jaunts had to be cancelled.

Today I was bored, so I decided to get a fire started using bamboo.

Here is how I did it

Splitting bamboo

Making a base

Fine shavings

Feather stick

I struck sparks onto the fine shavings and placed the feather sticks on once I got a flame, then built it up from there

A mug of instant noodles!

Next time I will use bamboo alone by using a bamboo fire saw/thong, and possibly a whole post on the uses of bamboo, which is long overdue.

Good way of 'recycling ' old bamboo canes
I have a large & tenacious patch of bamboo in the garden..........I don't use it for fire making as it burns too quickly & doesn't generate enough heat for real cooking.................might give it another a go with some dry canes I have hanging about getting in the way, I don't normally split them but it looks better to do so. your method is more a purer tradional one as I get a fire started using wood then feed it with the bamboo.

I see you're using a US canteen mug....I prefer mine to the crusader or lets say I find it more pratical,...... my water bottles fit in it, I find it a better size & water boils quicker in it.

Bamboo does get a good fire going its just the quantity required!! Yes, I chose the US canteen mug as where I live (Malaysia) I had to mail order it and it seemed liked the best choice, which it was!

It sure seems to make great feather sticks! I guess the way Bamboo fibres are help a lot there. Thanks for the great pics.
