Balloon bed

I laughed when i first saw this but its actually quite a novel idea.

Very small and light as you would expect, not sure how practical it would be though.
Anyone ever seen or used one ?

I was talking about them a fortnight ago, I reckoned they could be built into a hammock and save all the fuss and bulk and weight of underblankets.........got laughed at

I still think it's a good idea.

Like the LiLo beds some of us were using 40 years ago, not really a new idea is it.

For the pack size and weight I've always though they'd be good to have as either a backup to a self inflating mat or an addition ontop of to a thin non inflating one.

Now if they made them slightly longer with the individual tubes to velcro or zip shut they'd be good for a bushcrafter ( save the ballons for party tricks or emergency use ) stuff them with leaves/grasses/whatever, seal up tube ends and use, after a good nights sleep scatter the stuffing back where you got it from.

If you scroll down this guy's site, you'll see him using the baloon bed. He's got his gear weight down to 2lb! the baloon bed plays a role in that.

Of course I don't think they'd provide any insulation. In anything other than summer you'd still need closed cell foam or similar underneath.
