I've beaten a hammer head into a axe head . It was a lot of fun to make . I am so chuffed that this forum got me forging my own tools . I'm not amazing at it yet but I love it . This was a ball pein hammer it's now a small axe / wedge / hammer . CHUFFED!.

NOW WHAT TEMPERATURE SHOULD I SOAK IT FOR A FEW HOURS AT ?

Great work! I used to see these a lot when I was a kid - people took an old hammer to the smithy and had a pint and a chat while he beat 'em out an axe........atb mac

From your thread title I initially thought you had managed to hit your axe with a hammer, and I was expecting pictures of horrible axe edge damage!

Harvestman sorry I write like a monkey. The anvil I think is a jewelry anvil. It's sat on a scone pan that I also use . It's all I got but it works for now .

Yeah it's tiny .
The lump hammer I used for most of the drawing out is not much bigger hence the scone plate .
I can't wait to get a better anvil and set-up .
But I've also yet to house the forge properly.
my shed becomes a sauna and I built an extension for it so it can blow out side yet work inside .
Then I had roof leakage issues but I'm getting there .
I'm still learning and this is the best thing in my opinion to leave my anvil so far.
on wards and upwards .
A year of BCUK Membership and a year of reading and saving and now i'm proud of what I have managed .
I fainted flat on my face once and a few dizzy spells as my air intake can be down to 40% , and I was sick twice making this Over the course of 3 days .
as i'm not well yet refuse to sit on my **** .
But I ENCOURAGE ANYONE build or buy a forge give it ago I feel great by the forge and flop during and after yet I wont stop as the reward and fulfilment are worth every wobble.

Simple homemade knock up . 9v battery speaker ,cable , cotton ,salt and water solution. Put + one end on the knife and tape it on . The - end wrap in cloth or cotton and constantly dip in salty water . I stepped up the battery size only as little square one run out too quickly .
The salt water should be over the top salty I.e no longer dissolves . Occasionally clean off the cloth or cotton and hover over your design that is cut into tape .

Mate seriously all I did was buy a devil forge and build a coal one (threads on here) then watch YouTube and read from here . With a lot of helpful users on here guiding me along the way . I have no skills just hit with a hammer where needed . The rest is common sense and safety. And I still need to know what temperature would best suit the head to finish it off (still learning)
