Does anybody have anybody have any experience of using a “Baker Tent” like Ray Mears (peace be upon Him) used on his canoe trip?

This German shop has some interesting stuff. The “trapper lodge ” (euro 490) seems to be identical to the “Baker tent”

Also interesting is the “shelter ” (euro 285) which is supposed to be the smallest tent you can light a fire in.

I don't suppose it would be very difficult to make these tents yourself if you knew how to sew heavy canvas.

got the canvas 9.5 oz from whaleys of bradford ltd they have a web site cost of tent depends on what size you want canvas width was 2.75 mts and about £3 a mtr ideally a few pegs around the base will help stop the wind but it worked well but i only spent one night in it havent tried it for longer yet i tested it iin feb and was quite pleased

or you could try making one of these. it cost about £103 without pole and threads same canvas and sewn on a domestic machine i found leather needles to be best

good luck if you choose to make your own its very satisfying :D

Very nice work.

What do you think of the "shelter" in the link I posted. Looks to be a lot handier than a tipi and you can still have a fire. The webpage dosent give a whole lot of information - even if you speak German. I must ask for more information on a German outdoor forum.

I've used Baker tents. They are a pain in the neck to transport, require far too many poles, and are a cluster to erect.

On the other hand, if you are going to be set up in one place for a while, they are a very nice tent.
