The Desert
This is a swan neck gouge I just made…first try, so no doubt there are some improvements that can be made, but it worked quite well on the first trial run with some dry desert willow….

Not sure any 'improvement' is required, your first try seems to have produced an excellent tool judging by the results on that piece of wood.

the question is, have you tried making the woodchip flower yet? Where you start carving but walk around the wood carving a sort of spiral, rather than just pringle shapes
Ha...Well, I've done it plenty with my little hand gouge while making spoons, but I look forward to some bigger flowers with this one.... :)
