Saw a Niva a couple of weeks ago, but we get a lot of old cars round here because of Goodwood meetings. Triumph Stags everywhere last weekend.

Austin Princess in poop brown yesterday, not sure how they’ve kept that one running TBH :D

A battered Austin Princess in green colour was my first car in the univ back in 1990. It was a big car, and strange liquid suspension, which used to leak onto the ground when parked. But engine was great, and ran well. Had it for a year, and had to spend some money to pass MOT. When MOT passed, I sold it to a shifty looking bloke for cheap. I was fed up with the niggling problems it had, and hated large cars at the time.

I was always impressed with the Niva's, yeah built quality from new was terrible, but once sorted they made for pretty impressive little off roaders

Approaching Revival weekend and passed a beautifully restored Ford Model T yesterday.

And what should come up the road behind, a very good condition white LADA Riva.

Reactions: spader
I was at sea up and around the Baltic much of ‘92 - ‘93. All the small merchantmen heading to Russia had the occasional BMW or VW but lots of Ladas.

The Klondike fishing ships moored near Weymouth took some ladas back with them when they went home so rumour had it.

I miss my old Lada Niva, the 2nd 4x4 I ever owned (the first being a Fiat Panda). An absolute tank of a vehicle and very capable off road, 4 fuses in the fuse box and an absolute beast of an engine that took everything I threw at it and came back for more. It wasn't the fastest, the quietest or the most economical of vehicles but I loved it for all its ruggedness, to this day I still debate with myself whether I upgraded or downgraded when I got my first Series III LWB Land Rover.

Last one I saw in road worthy condition was in Skiathos in September, it was one of the older versions rather than newer but still looked a very capable vehicle.

In the late 1980s, our street was full of Lada cars parked everywhere by the neighbors. Now it is impossible to see even one.

What about the Yugo? I read tonight that they're coming back!! Anyone have one of those?
Had a Zastava Yugo 311 2 door hatch back in the late 1980’s to early 1990’s. If I remember correctly, it was based on the Fiat 127. First car I owned from new and did me proud for a good number of years until the lack of spare parts necessitated a change. Being a hatch with drop-down seats you could get an awfully large amount of camping equipment and tents in it and the weight didn’t affect the handling too much.
