Hi all.

I've searched high and low for free selfbow making videos but cannot find anything substantial.

So far I have found two gems, but what I'm really really after is a detailed video on making a classic mary-rose type yew selfbow from scratch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-VJx5Es3N0&p=CAC0EE81E95BBFA8&index=11 (flick to 2:30 minutes)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAMNN6ryZeg (this one is REALLY good, but painfully brief!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2N1cT1tKmM (this video is a 20-part youtube series of self-bow making from log to bow. Very very good video but ashame he isn't making a longbow)

If anyone knows any other videos on longbow/warbow making I'd be very excited to see them! Torrents, anyone??

le 2eme video...
the 2nd video

heureusement pour moi, je comprends un peu de ce dialogue en francais! mais c'est cool! :lmao:
happily for me, i understand a but of this (narrator's) dialogue in french. but it's cool. :lmao:

so anyway, trying to keep some of the essence of the narrators explanaition....

stuff in paragraphs is a guess at the translation ok. a couple of decades have been and gone since i lived in france.

just before 2:55:
the wood is refined using a plane, (drawknife) a knife with two handles.
4:18:
the third tool, known since ancient times, raccloit? (scraper?) permits the bowyer to achieve the fabrication of the long bow.

6:33
two points of beef horn, "les poupees" are tailored (to recieve the cord in their grooves)are mounted on the handsome extremities of the bow's wood.

7:32
the cord is composed of several strands of natural wool, or (something) (toursadee)?(braided)?

8:21 this bit is hard to understand...
denis mairine equalises each arm of the bow, he works on the belly, inside of the bow to achieve the best curve. this operation, according to bowyers, obtains over and above the best asthetics, but gives a perfect shooting precision.

8:37
the bow is ready.....

for progressive stretching, i'll finish the translation later if anyone's interested.

A+ and.
