Bernie showed me my first Amethyst Deceiver as well

Looks like one of the Earth Balls. They tend to accumulate in large groups, but aren't edible.

Many thanks, I've done a search for earth balls and it does look like that is what they are. Shame they are in-edible as there are so many of them

Yep earth balls. there in all the woodland around there. cut one open last time i was up there and it was as Shewie described.

earth balls. crack it open, it should by bluey black spore inside. and what they said, aye dont eat!

Well....everything is edible at least once, it's just the consequences! Definitely earthballs.
