There's one patch of the woods where these are everywhere.

Bernie showed me my first Amethyst Deceiver as well :)

Looks like one of the Earth Balls. They tend to accumulate in large groups, but aren't edible.

Many thanks, I've done a search for earth balls and it does look like that is what they are. Shame they are in-edible as there are so many of them :(

Yep earth balls. there in all the woodland around there. cut one open last time i was up there and it was as Shewie described.

earth balls. crack it open, it should by bluey black spore inside. and what they said, aye dont eat!
