Just had a call from my mum to say an Amazon parcel is on the back step. I had it sent there as I know she’s in all day today and can sign for it. Delivery note email says “Parcel was handed to resident”.

Well it wasn’t handed to her, she was home, and no signature was asked for. That’s an 8 inch Sabatier just sat on the doorstep :banghead2:

Well, whatever. At least with Royal Mail delivery is unambiguous to the point that my 82 year old mum would need to provide actual proof of age. Which is ridiculous, but doesn’t allow for mistakes. I reckon any knife should have to be signed for, Amazon need to make sure they are, and in this case they’ve broken the law.

Agreed. Then again, I’ve seen Amazon willing to list and sell knuckledusters and all sorts of other illegal weapons, so I can’t say I am surprised.

Was it delivered by Amazon? This week I ordered, at the same time, two boxes of alcohol free beer from Amazon which bizarely needed age verification. One was sent RM and one via Amazon and neither was age verified on delivery.

I've also ordered some locking knives from Ali Express and they were not age verified.

I doubt the age verification is that reliable.

It’s not reliable, but Amazon are big. I got a call back about it, they said it wasn’t on the age verified list of items. They also agreed it ought to be, and not be left on the step of the porch when the delivery email said handed to resident and would I like to lodge a complaint against the driver? I didn’t of course, if it’s not on the age list then he’s not to know.

This dropped through the letterbox this morning, Petrifed Fish - Ripple. Nice, but not in a youngsters pocket.

I agree that if your Sabatier was not listed in Amazon's systems as being in a category absolutely requiring age verification upon delivery, then the delivery driver could not have known.

But declaring it as having been handed to the recipient when it was left on the doorstep is definitely the wrong thing to do.

Bearing in mind that the drivers are often self-employed and paid per delivery made (I've seen £1 per delivery for Evri), I'm not at all surprised that they don't want to ring the bell or knock on the door and wait...

Here, in France, the driver usually phones me when he's about for deliveries away, so that if I'm in the house I have time to come downstairs from my office so he can hand me the parcel. If I'm too busy, in a meeting or away somewhere, I just don't take the call; he then leaves the parcel in the doorstep or in the letter box.

Thats fair enough mate. Yeah, should have been checked...But still, you get to slaughter carrots with reckless abandon.... Chop, slice, dice, 'ave it... Watch those fingers though... cant type without them. ;)

Aye well I've found that with RM delivery of "over 18 signature required" items then more often than not they knock the door, and leave it on the step, by the time you get to the door the van is pulling away.

Amazon's own couriers IME have always knocked, waited and asked..... certainly more reliably so than RM....

I know i'm supposed to send knives with age verification, but i dont. Special delivery at the post office and had no issues whatsoever. Can't be doing with this online posting malarky, them picking it up and the recipient having to be messed about if theres no one in with ID to receive it.

Supposed to be age verified (legal requirement) and declared as a bladed item (Royal Mail requirement. If it was someone here I didn’t know, or a new member, then it’s quick and easy enough to ask for a passport or license pic.

Last knife I sent was sheathed and wrapped to such a degree in cardboard padding, bubble wrap, and in a strong cardboard box that I had no doubt it wasn’t injurious to anyone and sent it Special. Be a bit careful with the age thing Mark, this is an open forum and you’re admitting to breaking the law.

Here’s the knife left on mums side porch step. Amazon say this isn’t an an item that’s listed as requiring age verification. I’d suggest the Daily Fail would be all over this like a rash.

Indeed. Yesterday I struggled to get an evri driver to part with a bottle of wine as I didn’t have any ID to hand. He eventually entered my birth date and handed it over. It would be a very dissolute seventeen year old who looked like me!
