advice on tarps and hammocks

Hi there , can anyone please give me some advice on which tarp and hammock to buy , what should i be looking for and what price range . iv read that you can also get a mat that lines your hammock, what are these called and what price are they . Can you recommend any online shop or where i can purchase these things .

DD all the way. you can get a mat (coffin shaped) that fits in it, quite comfy, although another item to take on camp of course. (Ging to try with out next time!)

If your lucky there may be another group buy!!

I bought this only a month ago, and have had two tow night hangs since. I went for the Frontline rather than the traveller hammock, as I'd ready that the waterproofing on the traveller had caused condensation problems for some people. I don't intend to use it as a bivi on the deck so the waterproofing I didn't need the waterproofing anyway.

I emailed them and asked them to swap out the sleeping bag liner for two Karabiners, and they added £2.

The bag is ok, a basic canvass style, but it does the job. I managed to get two days worth of clothing, sleeping bag, 3/4 thermarest, blanket, tarp and Hammock in the main compartment. Washkit, knive, Spare cord etc went in the side pockets.

In all a great buy, and the Hammock is brilliant. The tarp did tear on the second use, but an email to DD sorted it, and they sent me out a replacement that I got the very next day.

In all, you can't go wrong with DD, and the customer service is brilliant.

i would go DD. then run out and get some cheap line for your ridgeline. i use Tracpac paracord, which isn't technically para but it's dirt cheap and i've hade my whole bodyweight on it and i've yet to get it to fail (trust me i've tried.) i bought a 100m reel and i'm down to my last few metres already it's so handy. so i bought the DD camping hammock and the 3x3 tarp. it packs into the top of my pack beautifully so it's straight to hand when i set up camp. i then went to screwfix and bought a pack of M8 snap hooks. yh you get 10 but again they're really handy around camp. for the WHOLE setup i was in for around £70 but it's well worth it. i've got paracord creations everywhere and spare snap hooks galore. another tip, buy a cheap roll mat from your local camping shop and trim it down to fit your hammock, then slide it inbetween the layers of the hammock. you will have the best night's sleep ever. drop us a message if you want any advice on how to set it up. there are hundreds of little tips and tricks that just make it all so easy.

Nice little write up. The snap hooks seem a good price. The mat idea is good, I have a coleman coffin mat, that works too. I am going to try with out next camp (hopefully next Friday!)

Amsteel and Woopie slings are the way forward weight wise. My hammock and the webbing I used and Carabeener weighed 4.1kilos with the amsteel now 3.1kilos.....

Every kilo counts!!

well i've heard a lot about these amsteel and whoopie slings. what are the prices like to get a full suspension conversion? my only beef is that my suspension setup as it is now hardly weighs anything anyway. i'll weigh it tomorrow. how much does a whoopie suspension kit weight?

Amsteel blue is a hollow dyneema braid that weighs 4.5g per metre in the 7/64 size. 2x 6ft whoopies need around 8m of line which weighs 36g. Add to this the tree straps which will should weigh between 25-50g each, depending on the strength/material. The whole lot will weigh between 75 and 150g. The stock DD is over 300g and very bulky/stretchy/absorbant compared to dyneema.
