One strong leg of my family on Mom's side has been in the forest industry (logging) for decades.
They always selected the axes that we got as gifts when we were kids.
30 degrees total included bevel. The splitters always had jointed edges, maybe 1/2mm?

Bushwacker is kindly sending me another head so I could make a beater with that, but may have to make another haft as I cant find a short haft to fit the eye, I guess at 4 pound's its a long haft head, and I need one that's not too heavy and can be pack mounted, as I will have to haul it and a pack full of wood a mile or so back from the woods
 
The Tru Oil is made by Birchwood Casey. If you can not find it, the same product is also marketed under the Beretta ( of shotgun fame) as Beretta True-oil.

Do not buy a large flask as it goes off/thickens quickly once opened.
