    Bug Out Simulation

Where are you going to bug out to in the UK? What about everyone else who will be bugging out as well - and quite possibly to the same location that you had thought of?

    My Bug out Bag

I'm not sure that I really see the need for a bag like this in the UK. What would you be bugging out from? Where would you be bugging out from? Where would you be bugging out to? Without the answers it's quite difficult to know what to say really. On the one hand you may find that a bug...

    Not such a good idea.

Karrimor Sabre 45 + side pouches: No back system, not long enough, no belt support. Bought because others raved about it - how very vert wrong... Karrimor Sabre 35: No back system, not long enough......you get the idea..... Osprey packs on the other hand are amazing!

    Jungle kit help (Costa Rica)

I think johnboy has given you some of the best advice here, perhaps you should re-think your pack choice. Don't be afraid of spending money on your feet. The Cyclops bergan will do you justice too. Also, I use exped dry-bags too and realy rate them. I'd recommend the coloured ones over the...

    There's an app. for that

GPS2OS - gives you a 10 digit OS grid ref (or USNG) GPS Lite (Motion X) very good GPS package as others have mentioned GB Lite - Full UK OS maps in 1:250,000 scale. Yes it's only 250k scale, but the whole of the UK for 3 quid was a good deal I thought. Plus it's stored locally so no need for...

    Recommend a sleeping mat?

I love my slim Airic from Alpkit. I've used it in a tent, with a bivi bag and partly inflated in a hammock (and the living room floor too...) Excellent bit of kit, far superior to "normal" roll mats.

    Alternative to the Sabre 45?

I like my Sabre 45 - but I have to agree that on me (6 ft) the waist strap also doesn't really bear any of the weight. Have you looked at Deuter bags? I have a 65 + 15 (I think) Deuter Aircontact sack and the back system is superb. They do thr same back system on small capacity sacks also...

    Alternative to the Sabre 45?

You could try the Dutch patrol pack at Endicotts. I forget the model but it's 40 litres and made by Lowe Alpine. Looks decent and accepts side pouches.

    1 - 3 day sack

Sabre 45 - cinch side straps down for smaller bag, use with side pockets for longer trips. Until I got one I was dubious. I have several rucksacks, but this is my fav now by far. Just for day trips with the family etc I still use my 20l Gourdon from Alpkit though. Get a Sabre, you won't look...

    Ventile clothing

    Ventile clothing

You also need to consider if the weight of the clothing is an issue for you or not. If it is, then ventile probably won't be for you. Obviously the activity is paramount also....
