Ive been reading threads and posts on here and at times been in stitches,ok some are joking but it seems there are others like me with the same illness.
People asking neighbours for dryer lint, nicking swmbos face pads, seeing a tin of condoms...
I have to say Kochanski's bushcraft is top,but i do like Ray's outdoor book cos its split into seasons and imho its before he was all commercially wen he was still using hawks.
As for loftys book i dont really rate it,yes i devoured it as a kid but then thats all there was tho i did like...
According to this guy i saw on tele the best way to spear fish is to free fall from an aeroplane land on the fish stunning it then bite its head off and eat the guts, cant for the life of me remember his name. Mear grylls i think.
My friend and i spent boxing day to new year in the cairngorms a couple of years back,2 weeks before 2 lads froze to death on a mountain there but unfazed we still went.We were tooled up to the eye balls had to keep a fire going for about 12 hours a day no twigs n branches we had to fell dead...
That was quite scary to watch someone go insane before your eyes,being a social animal we tend to crack up with out the company of others. But to watch someone unravel and go all lord of the flies was almost painful to watch.
Love that dvd also the follow up silence n solitude to see dick in his late seventies and finally hear his voice ,hes my all time hero,theres also a free follow up book on his one mans wilderness book at the bottom of his wiki page :)
A couple of years ago me and my mate spent 5 days in the cairngorms just after christmas (cold wasnt the word) anyway my pack weighed nearly 5 stone not including the 1 stone of food i carried in a stuff sack.
We walked about 10ish miles in then set up camp and had a great time but by jingo...
ps if you like real old bushy films watch nanook of the north a fantastic silent movie from the 20s i have it on dvd but i believe its on youtube and veoh.
This man is my all time hero what a fantastic life he led,must have read the books a dozen times hes got to be one of the luckiest and most interesting people to have ever lived,would love to visit his cabin before i shuffle.:You_Rock_

What an amazing man dick proenneke was imo he led one of the most interesting and healthy lives of anyone ive read about,and the cabin he built is absolutely beautiful,a fantastic film.I have read both his books and recomend them to anyone.
