i had the arctic feather bag with the pvc nylon cover for years and every morning would wake up covered in feathers.
your correct that the spikey feathers pushed their way through the nylon.
the up side with the feather bags was i washed it loads of times and never noticed any massive reduction...
i also own the very draughty banshee 200, i use a dutch bivi bag and my exped 7 mat and bag fit inside ,stops my bag getting damp and stops me sliding off the down mat.
fetting rid of my british bivi and dutch bivi as ive just bought the usa version of amazon.
to be fair i find the karrimor winter trousers a very good buy ,bought 4 pairs at 4.99 each last summer and found them to be very hard wearing.
my last two pairs of craghopper ripped the stitching on the backside but the cheapies are going strong.
i miss my synthetic arctic, stupidly sold when i got given a carinthea defence 4 which i find has more space inside but is nowhere near as warm or comfortable
the trouble with all the surplus goretex is all the washing they have gone through with no renewing of the outer dwr.
i.e new dpm mvp slightly shiney due to dwr coating, heavilly boilwashed surplus has a matt brushed cotton looking finish.
if the outer dwr is stripped off it the outer will wet...
British dpm/desert can be obtained with or without pockets.
The pocketless version was meant to be worn under a windproof smock as a waterproof liner .
The green dutch versions are very nice but getting hard to find in good condition.
Raf version is blue with no hood but has a zip in quilted...
i looked at the photos of your car last night, and realised id driven past it yesterday returning from a night on the moors .
where you were parked is very wide and if she had not hit you she would have hit the bank.
just glad everyone was okay.
from first hand experiance and most boot reviews on the walking forums. i have a pair of meindle douvre/solomons and the mammuts and on wet rock/grass their lethal even my magnums with the same sole slide all over the place. there was talk on various walking forums that the composition of vibram...
mines arrived, so clean it doesnt even have paint wear on the zip pullers looks like its spent more time in storeage and has seen little or no use.
thought origionally it was the removable hood version but its the fixed one so not bad for a 130 quid saving.
ihave a montane prism 1 and its very good as is alot of their gear but i would try it on before buying a can be quite a technical fit.
plus the shell is showerproof but the jacket is just as warm when wet as its primaloft.
