    Some food for thought...

Thank you everyone for the interesting views and replies in this thread. I agree to an extent with the author of that post. There was a time when I noticed that when I was going into the woods, it was only to test gear, practice a skill (carve a spoon or make fire with a primitive method), buy...

So you first took a picture without you, then the second one with you and then blended them together?

MSR Stowaway 1.6l and GSI Glacier Kettle question

Hi, I have a MSR Stowaway Pot for 1.1l and a GSI Glacier Kettle. They almost can nest in each other but the kettle is a bit too high, so i can not close the lid. If anyone has the bigger pot and the same kettle, can you tell me please if it is possible to nest them? Thanks!

Trangia + Clickstand - Heat Spreader

Hi Wayland, this is a nice idea. I have been using a similar trick, but instead of doing a separate piece of kit I just used the Tatonka stainless steel pan. I put it on the Trangia, and then my Stowaway pot in it. It worked great. But it makes sense to make such a spreader, in case I don't...

    bushcraft cooking... my way!

Noroc, I also like to watch your videos and find them really interesting. Especially the ones where you cook. Finally someone who is using real food and not ramen, MRE's, or other crap. Besides being a nutritional and health nightmare (at least the ramen noodles) it is rather expensive...

    Zebra pot distilation device

Charles, probably it would work, with a large enough receptacle inside the pot. But it would really need to have a diameter only a little bit smaller then the billy for water not to miss it. But the cooling would be really better. Maybe it can be somehow improved by using the nesting pot that...

    Zebra pot distilation device

I doubt you can use this setup to distill alcohol because the collecting cup is in the hot environment itself, the alcohol would evaporate the whole time I suppose.

    Zebra pot distilation device

Hello, I have just experimented a little bit with a 14cm Zebra billy can and it looks like you can use it to distill fresh water from salt water, if you ever need to. You need only the billy, a cup which fits inside and something to raise the cup inside the billy. I used an empty tin can, with...

Locking knive, folding, one simple blade?

Pocket Bushman from Cold Steele. Great lock, OK blade (I like the shape and size but not very keen on the steel) and very well built all around. Bomb and tankproof ;) BUt not very suitable if you want to carve hard wood a lot - your hand will hurt because of the handle pretty soon. But the you...

    Camp Knife...

Burbidge, if you need a knife for going out get a mora (711 is my favourite). And with the rest of the money you save up buy some other kit you might need. Believe me, the difference in money between a mora and some other production or custom knife is not equal to the difference in the...

    Bushcraft/survival fitness and conditioning

hi i am sorry i did not read the whole thread so if i repeat something i already said i apologize. i dont think there is some special "bushcraft" physical conditioning you need or can acquire. if you have a decent conditioning for prolonged aerobe activities that is enough for bushcraft...

the versitility of a small knife and batton

hey :) you are absolutely right. but from an energetic and practical point of view batoning is inefficient compared to using an axe or a saw, especially if you need to cut a lot of wood. besides I usually plan ahead if I go in the bush. if we go just for a day, for a walk then I dont need...

the versitility of a small knife and batton

Golden words! Btw if you are referring to his method from the book I believe it did not involve batoning ;) cheers

the versitility of a small knife and batton

How do you know how long it took? AFAICS there are enough cuts in the video so you dont actually know how much time it took exactly. But speed was never my point either ;) I agree with you, that particular tree is pretty much the limit for a SAK saw, but with a decent folding saw you can do it...
