GHUBCA Beautiful job. Are you using just the epoxy resin without the hardener to mix with the acetone? akraven

    Hardening knife blades

How about just going ahead and doing it on your own? If you stick with the high carbon steels its not very hard to do. Do you have any room to do it? akraven

    Crusader Lid project

Sounds like lots of good ideas here! I will be interested to see how everybody does. Just take your time and adapt what you have to make it work. The wood I used was just scraps from other projects. The plywood is hardwood plywood because I don't think standard pine or fir plywood will hold up...

    Crusader Lid project

Here is a pic of the mold I used. The male side is walnut and the female side is hardwood plywood. I probably should have rounded over the leading edges of the female mold to allow the metal to start into it easier. Keep in mind if you try this that it took quite a bit of force on my large...

    Crusader Lid project

Thank you very much for the compliments. Its not perfect but it fits quite well and should last a long time. I used BBQ paint to paint it so I would have no worries about heat. As for selling them I am afraid shipping to the UK would be horrible. Also like I said they are not perfect and I would...

    Crusader Lid project

Well I really liked Rappleby2000's lid that he featured in his tutorial.http://www.bushcraftuk.com/community/showthread.php?t=13853 I couldn't get the hang of rolling the edge over like he did without getting lots of wrinkles. So I tried it another way. I cut out the same shape in wood and then...

making a crusader cup lid! like mine1

Rappleby2000 Well I have tried twice to make this lid and sad to say have run into problems. Did you round over the edges of your wooden form? I did and when I am bending it over I get all sorts of "wrinkles" in the metal around the edges. No matter what I try there is just to much metal and it...

    58' and crusader combo kit!

Looks like a great setup! What are you burning in the stove? Wasn't there a manufacture that was coming out with a lid for the crusader? akraven

How do you carry belt kit when using a rucksack with a hipbelt?

Malcomc,,,,I think you are right on in having kit available to you all the time rather than stashing it in your ruck. If you read many of the true life survival situations that happen frequently people lose their main gear and are left with only whats on your person. The backward fanny pack...

    stromeng leuku

Not to hijack the thread but anybody have any thoughts comparing this Leuku to the Iisakki Järvenpää leauku? I found an old post of Hoodoo's that mention he likes the Stromeng better. Anybody else have any thoughts? akraven
