Things you had to have...but sold

another vote for ventile, had the a hilltrek jacket,it was like cardboard, don't care how good people say it is, it was just not for me. Starting to think my hammock is there too, much prefer sleeping on the ground. Hammock /tarp rigs take up as much room in my pack and don't protect me from...

    hollowing out a kuksa

Does anyone else find that bowl burning causes the wood to harden, resulting in it being hard to finish the bowl shape with a crook knife? I see Dick Proenecke used a gouge chisel on his laddles, any suggestions on making the job easier? is it kuksa or noggin?

    Moras

cheers everybody for the advice. Yep I agree the youtube mora destruction thing is gone crazy. Can I just ask one more question, I have a clipper from an old woodsmoke course, we filed the back of it for firesteel use. Are there any triflex owners out there who can tell me if I can file the...

    Moras

I'm looking for a "fairly" robust Mora, must be carbon steel, ideally full(ish) tang. Triflex was 1st thought, youtube vids claim they're full tang but several x-ray images online say its just like the clipper, short length tang. Can anyone confirm their tang length please? Any other Moras?

    dyeing a duffle coat

I have a duffle coat which is 80% wool. I would like to deepen the colour from sand to dark brown using dylon. However, the label says dry clean only. Wool should dye shouldn't it? Surely if I just immerse it in a solution of hand wash dylon that would do the trick. Anyone have any experience...

Wright & Son Handmade Bushcraft Knife - opinions/review

Have one too, bought it 6 years ago on the bay at the time. I had it reground by Rory Connor knives in Ireland for 25£, good price and he tightened up the sheath as it was working loose. The grind was convex and a nightmare to sharpen. Now its not so bad, a real rough work tool, 4mm thick is...

    Advice on rainwear please

I'm looking to buy a new rainjacket. I've been looking at the Keela Munro and the Paramo Alta Jacket. I think the Munro might be a bit short in length but looks like a good alternative to gore tex. If you own one could I get an opinion please? I'm aware that Paramo has a big fan base and...

Sas black & green mountain windproof parka smock jacket

Check my comment on similar thread today, they are ok, not brilliant but they do they job. Get a good needle and thread and cuffs for the wrist. Holds wind off well but not of genuine smock standard. Hope this helps. PS this is the supplier I bought off. Fair price and I wear it a lot.

Caution: "smock combat olive windproof" (or black or DPM)

I got one a while back on ebay. I have waxed it with barbour thornproof. I got the largest size and I'm a medium/large. I wanted lots of room, and it delivers on that front. The size is comfortable with a waistcord to tidy it in. I will agree the stitching is poor and the material really should...

    Hard weather for all

I just thought it might be worth asking everyone to spare a thought for our wildlife in this weather. This is exactly the type of weather that kills so many of our birds and small mammals. Snow and ice hides the few bits of food left and frozen water is not drinkable. Maybe we could all leave...
