    Any fellow Londoners out there?

I'm a Londoner, but also a beginner. Happy to meet up and chat but probably not going to be a great help in learning. :)

    Plant ID help please

I'm no expert, but having a quick looksie around i found this thread on the forum with pictures attached that matches it pretty well. http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31289 Specifically the leaves seem identical.

    Which basha/tarp should i get?

Had a look on their site, and both the tarp and the bivi bag seem great for weight/price/quality that they offer. Unfortunately they're out of both in kelp, and fire engine red just doesn't do it for me in camping gear. :p

    Which basha/tarp should i get?

Hmm, the mixed opinions are pretty interesting. Camping, mainly as a basha in a lightweight set (i hate hauling tents around when i'm on foot). Although i was thinking of experimenting with hammocks somewhere down the line, i'm comfortable with just a basha/tarp and a roll mat for my sleeping bag.

    Which basha/tarp should i get?

From talking to others the DD 3x3 seems pretty popular, but is also a bit pricey compared to the ex army ones you can pick up. Is it worth the extra money, or what tarp do you use?

    Suffolk Bushcraft Group 2 Night Monthly Meeting 6th & 7th June 2014

Sorry, missed this one. I live in central London, but if anyone was travelling from here i could go meet them. However for this weekend the most i could do would be a Saturday visit since i chucked out my tent (it leaked horrendously in the rain last time out) and the tarp i order from ebay...

To goretex or not to goretex?

Thanks for the answers, i went with non goretex for many of the reasons stated above. If my feet get wet occasionally i can always dry them easily enough. Much easier than if they are over heating and sweaty every time i have the boots on.

    Good pair of boots?

As a follow up, i went with a pair of Meindl desert foxes from ebay. Brand new, and feel pretty good so far. Even work with jeans as a casual boot. So far i'm cautiously impressed.

    Suffolk Bushcraft Group 2 Night Monthly Meeting 6th & 7th June 2014

I'd love to come. Anyone got any tips on getting there from London for someone without a car?

To goretex or not to goretex?

Recently i asked a question about getting a good pair of boots, and after searching around a bit i've found a lot of the options come in a basic version and goretex (or other waterproof material) lined option which is slightly more expensive. What are the pros and cons of having goretex boots? I...

    Good pair of boots?

Are they the army issue ones? Thanks for the heads up.

    Good pair of boots?

I really need to steer clear of used boots to be honest. Have a history of knee pain stemming from an old knee injury i got while training for Royal Marines years back. I did have a quick look and defenders were going for £160 unused on ebay, which is pretty steep.

    Good pair of boots?

My old army boots have given up the ghost and i need a decent pair of boots for hiking and day trips. Down at the local sports direct they have a million different types of Karrimor, but my recent experience with their walking shoes is that they're terrible quality. So any suggestions of a good...

So apparently i can't learn just from videos

Awesome. I won't make it this weekend, but i'll definitely pencil in a weekend soon. :D Thanks, and i'm thankful for all the offers of help being made. I think once you have some basic skill in a subject then watching others demonstrate can be a lot more useful than just watching, and then...

Any idea how much these cost?

So apparently i can't learn just from videos

Thanks for the replies everyone. It's a bit of an ego blow because i always assumed it was just a matter of practice, but if i don't know where i'm going wrong to begin with it becomes so much harder to try and get a result. When/where is it? If i have the time and funds i'd be interested...

So apparently i can't learn just from videos

Starting off as a pure city boy with no bushcrafty skills i've been at a disadvantage in this game. I did my time in the TA and learnt some outdoorsy/camping skills that have stayed with me, but trying to take the next step and learn bushcraft off of the internet isn't working for me. I've...

Which survival kit item has saved most lives?

Appropriate clothing for me. If you have good enough clothing you can generally survive at least a few days with nothing else, and by that time you will usually be rescued. Find yourself on a glacier with night coming in and even the best comms equipment won't stop you from dying before...

    Man made tinder ideas

Ok maybe i was setting the bar a bit high as some of the posters over there are using things like cardboard and lint, i was thinking it had to be "bushcraft" style man made! Since some of you have already suggested it i may have a go at making char cloth if anyone can tell me how to do it?

    Man made tinder ideas

I'm looking at completing the American bushcraft forum's bushcraft course, and one of the modules is creating and lighting 5 man made tinders. Right now i have vaseline cotton balls, magic pads, and a home made candle made from cardboard, candle wax, and an old tuna tin. I still need another two...
