Fixed wing RAF routinely 250'.
They do practice lower though, I'm told -100' on known military exercise sites....and lower at sea.

I would agree, if you are a veteran camper it is likely you have accrued enough stuff to get you through a few difficult situations, I keep a canister gas stove in the car and small Kelly kettle, that is not prepping, they just live there.I would define it as camping if you buy the stove for camping, is that wrong?
Or to put it another way how many campers with a camping stove would consider themselves preppers?
I tend to find people use the name prepper as a bit of an insult or a dismissive term, a bit like when we first started growing our fruit and very people would call us Tom & Barbara or mention the Good Life.
Yes, I remember a day on the M6, just south of Tebay, going down into the valley.
"Theres a wee plane flying below the peaks"
it turned out to be a Hercules.
But that doesnt mean other people should be allowed to do this.
In the last few days... while driving to the shops... i've seen on 2 separate occaisions... a white van, being escorted by 4 police cars.. Marked cars, BMW estates... They pushed through red lights, yet drove within the speed limit. Not seen that round here before either. Reminded me of disaster movies where important folk get picked up and taken to the safe place... Not saying that's what it was, just that its the first time i've seen it in this country.Just had two mahoosive military planes fly over my home, probably less than a hundred feet up. This has never happened before like that. We sometimes get the odd nimrod or helicopters fly over fairly low, but this was incrediblely low.
Such a roar, and the house trembled and rattled. Chandelier started swinging, (it's only a small one mind) I thought it was an earthquake, and ran out of the house in sock clad feet..no shoes, just in case. My gosh it gave me a turn and a half!
The planes were massive, no idea what they were apart from obviously being military ones.
Things are definatly ramping up. They were flying west to east. Definitely "under the radar" American bombers sneaking into the UK perhaps? I know the shape of most British military planes. These are new to me.
Sadly I was in a bit of a tizz, thinking it was an earthquake, (it realy felt like a big one),so didn't get a clear view.
So, I'll make a cuppa, keep calm and carry on.
Phew!
Yeah, they have a dozen airbases here already. Spent a week at Mildenhall back when i was in the cadets as our 'annual camp'The Americans are not sneaking into the UK. It’ll be training.
Hmm, interesting! In the last few days... while driving to the shops... i've seen on 2 separate occaisions... a white van, being escorted by 4 police cars.. Marked cars, BMW estates... We're 60+ miles to both. They are both east coast... we are quite literally central (going east/west). Over an hours drive to see the sea.. in any direction.Hmm, interesting!
Just googled white van escorted by police and there is an article about this happening over the last few days in Hull and Cottingham "on a high security training exercise "
So that could be what you saw if you are near that area.
But, who knows the real reason. They'd never tell us anyway.
There are two likely possibilities:They were flying west to east. Definitely "under the radar" American bombers sneaking into the UK perhaps?
Could still be what you saw, I doubt they'd only spent 30 mins of travel on such an exercise. Where were they coming from or going to? We don't know. We're 60+ miles to both. Maybe all those ufo/drone sightings there last year, were a dry run, and as nothing happened it's the cry wolf scenario. It’s preparedness a state of mind? Probably, but then so is healthy scepticism.
I loved this, received from a friend in Los Angeles.

Self evidently it could still happen, but in the meantime this is healthy.
