Buying anything in store does have benefits...my fathers just been to Living Homes to look at TVs to get a feel for the size...sends me the model number then I buy it online....

Theres lots of things that if they are out of stock, you can browse similar much easier than online..

Online is perfect for bulk goods, quite specific things ( xanthum gum, yeast extrac, TVP) that might be more difficult to find in standard groceries, but you can buy in bulk....

ive got many clients who would have been shafted if online shoppingw asnt a thing during covid...but by having to give their family a grocery list....and accept what they got...often meant paying more....there is economy in browsing unless you impulse buy , like going shopping when hungry....

Tesco used to have the details of what item was on what shelf - really handy when you couldn’t find something. It was through an app and store specific.

Now that is usefull....changing store contents around is really annoying....

I do think my own experience that tends to be created due to a lack of planning - so now I try to have a rotating routine of over a month , 4 days a week out of the 7 knowing what we be cooked or eaten in advance.
For variety its not the same 4 day meals over the same 4 days every week - but the 4 days replicates over the next month - so a bigger cycle -so week 1 "X" Meals , week 2 , " Y" Meals , week 3 , " Z " Meals etc - this allows for longer term planning but retaining variety so not every Friday is a fish day etc.

The 3 days off the plan allow for takeaways , variety or 'shall I cook this tonight ?' type things which I think we need for human fulfilment - creative license and variety.

even at a 4/3 ratio split over the week it minimises food waste by half at least.

Just an idea.

So I found a comfortable compromise between cooking how I like and preset planned cooking -

I don't use any of them anymore- From an expense pov they can be quite reasonable when playing each other off with discounts and it can introduce different ingredients into a diet that you may not be familiar with.
I'd suggest reading the whole thread I linked before possibly jumping to any conclusions - there are Pros and Cons to it for sure.

My wife does online shopping through Tesco.
Err... it's not rocket science and saves all that traipsing about in a supermarket on a weekend.
My daughter and I can usually get round a supermarket fairly sharpish but my lovely wife needs about an hour and a half to get through the first three aisles which doesn't do my tourettes any good at all ;)
Consequently I didn't put up much of a fight when she started shopping online.
Theres a greengrocer and an Asian food shop within easy walking distance if I need froit/veg or meat without going to a supermarket.
Plus African food shops for something a bit different.

Asia supermarkets can be awesome for bulk buying and getting hard to find ingredients, like large bags of MSG, we used to buy loads from wai yee hong in bristol, the skyflakes when they are cheap enough are wonderfull crackers, go great with noodles or with a spread.
