I had a couple of hours to kill today so I thought I'd take a wander and try out the handline setup I have been putting together. I'm still refining it but it worked ok. I'm using #6 codline with a mono leader. I had a few bites right away and snagged this little guy. I also rescued a large...
The little guy and I both like building things. Just about anything in fact. Since the little bad wolf is big enough for our wanderings and walkabouts to take us farther into the woods now, I decided a foot bridge would be a good idea. It will allow the little guy to cross the creek that...
Thanks. The buck belonged to my father. I am not sure but it may be older than I am. I added the thumb stud and love it. It clamps on with a set screw so it doesn't alter the knife permanently.
I did remove the pith first. It's tricky getting a long piece after you split it because it...
Now that the temperatures are finally dropping, bush season is really starting up for me. So, I worked on some preventative maintenance of the tents today.
I recently acquired the two USMC Eureka Black diamond two-man tents and wanted to check out their condition. They have a very small...
I had a half hour to kill before dinner last night so I made some cordage from a 4' piece of greenbriar vine. Its a fun and useful skill to have but I'm not getting rid of my paracord, bank line, or mule tape any time soon. The cordage held one of Mrs. Whisper's 8 LB weights.
I bet the Tec P7 is nicer but this is one I got from amazon or ebay for about a dollar. It works great and I have been using it for about a year now.

I thought I would post these little guys as an alternative to a multitool. I carry them in to supplement my farmer instead of carrying a bulky leatherman and I actually like them better for most uses than the needle nose you often find in a multitool.
They are 4.5" long and only weigh 1.4 oz...
The 'Swamp Hike' is one of my favorite kinds of outings. Its basically just a bushwhacking session where I head into the worst terrain I can find and enjoy the challenges of navigating it. Today, Mrs. Whisper and I took Kid Whisper on his first swamp hike. He had a blast. We brought the new...
I was thinking it might be nice to have a thread devoted to 'Sheath Kits' or whatever you'd call them. This wouldn't necessarily be limited to comprehensive survival kits, but anything that rides on your knife's sheath. I have a feeling enough of us have unique set-ups that we can all learn a...
