Time remaining until the Meet

After discussion at the RC May Meet ...
From what I understand, the Pre-Moot course runs from the Monday (1st August). If there's interest I dare say that we'll extend the Meet to the Monday to allow travellers an easier time of it  .

Arrival time: from 16:00 on the 29th.

Fees: Payment on arrival. If you haven't been before, someone will be able to point you in my direction.

EDIT:

Our pitch has now changed. Intead of the 'As per usual, we're on PC11', we will be trialling a pitch that we haven't previously used ~ The Leader Training Field (plus surrounding wooded bit). The virtual placement pin marks the approximate position of the fire site/communal area. The red line marks the approximate route of the main track which goes through the site.

As per usual, the location is Rough Close.

Location info taken from the link above:

City of Coventry Scout County
Rough Close Scout Campsite
Tanners Lane
Berkswell
CV7 7DD

OS: Grid Ref: SP264779 (Site Access): SP266786 (Site Centre):

This is a child friendly site and your youngsters are welcome.

Site fees are £4.40 per person per night.

Helpful info:

The list isn't exhaustive - common sense applies. If in doubt, ask!
  • Any monies given (by individuals, groups, families etc) which is above the camping fees will be automatically considered to be a donation to Rough Close campsite to aid with site maintenance, site regeneration etc.
  • Forum members are responsible for themselves, the kit they use and their own actions (and any non member accompanying them) at the Meet.
  • Under 18's must be accompanied by at least one parent (or legal guardian).
  • You brought it in, you take it out – camping fees do not include a rubbish collection fee. The sites bin is the big orange thing in the camper’s car park.
  • When visiting others, do not leave your rubbish in someone else's pitch (or in a communal area) ~ take it with you and dispose of it yourself. The sites bin is the big orange thing in the camper’s car park.
  • Responsible drinking of alcohol is ok – drugs are prohibited! Please don't walk through another groups pitch whilst drinking alcohol and/or smoking.
  • Please keep ‘colourful language’ reasonable and to a reasonable volume.
  • Vehicles need to be parked up in the campers car park. The parking by the cabin is for the use of those using the cabin and/or the field.
  • Wood fires must be raised and contained. Periodically there is a shortage of wood available to burn - if you want to cook on an open fire, bring a supply of wood or charcoal.
  • It would be wise to be carrying a torch before it gets dark! It could also be provident to put markers on your shelter so you can find it in the dark.
  • In the highly unlikely event that I need to make use of this ... I reserve the right to stop any individual(s) from attending a Meet. Any individual(s) who I feel endanger our future use of the site will be required to leave the site; outstanding fees will still be owed.
The 'Touchy Subject' bit:

Because the site is, first and foremost, a Scout camp site, the only people we can't accommodate are those who would, purposely or otherwise, do harm to others. Primarily, this means that if you would be found unfit to adopt or foster a child then you can’t come along – same goes for anyone knowingly under investigation or having had an allegation made against them and is awaiting investigation.

It's fine if you want to:

be on your own
lay on your back looking at the sky, clouds, birds flying over etc
whittle
practice 'stuff' - except tree felling; the site has strong opinions about that :lmao:
practice flora and fauna ID
so on and so forth ...

This is, in no way, a bushcraft course and it's for you to make of it what you will.

Copy and paste yada yada ...

The touchy subject part, how do you go about discovering who's legit and who's dodgy?

you tie them to a tree, and beat them with a big stick, and if they confess, you help them with your gransfors bruck small forest axe.

Ah ok, I'm guessing everyone is usually well behaved though on the meet ups?

I'd like to go to one, preferably closer to the Bristol area as I don't travel well but I have alot of animals that need daily cleaning/feeding etc and I'd like to take the wife..

Good question.

vigilance is the only practical answer.

Peter is spot on ~ it's the unfortunate case that someone can walk in, grab and go* :tapedshut . It does help that Meet attendees tend to move about and talk to each other  .
Even CRB's aren't a catch all :( ~ they just mean that on [specified date] 'Joe/Josephene Bloggs' hadn't been caught.
Meet attendees (especially veterans to the various Meets) are quite protective of both RC and BcUK (the same goes for those at other Meets). Added to that is that we will have seen the face of all who are pitched up with us :BlueTeamE .
You'll also find that the Leaders on site are also vigillant ;) .

* This is pretty much true of almost any location.

I've never seen anything dodgy go on at any of the meets... but then there are a lot of bushes to hide behind :lmao:

But in all honesty the RC meets have always been good fun full of camaraderie and new people are always made to feel welcome :)

Well, I'm definately going to be on site from the Friday (29/07) until the following Thursday (04/08) .

I'll get the sites okay to offer the week and then officially open up the offer  .

Last time I was at RC - and I usually pitch up at a site that is probably more secluded than most - two young lads appeared and started chatting. They seemed normal and quite innocently asking about my hammock, tarp etc.

I told Decorum about them at the first opportunity, both to help protect myself from any untoward suggestions and also in case they were trespassers, as they seemed to have scouting knowledge but didn't seem to be current scouts.

So far as I know nothing came of it.
