Crocs and versions of...

Hi all - I've been hankering for a pair of crocs recently.

Worth it?

Can't really justify the £30 odd on them though, so I've been keeping an eye on ebay.

Does anyone have experience with the cheapo variety called Cloggis?

From what I've seen the QC isn't as good but they are pretty similar.

Thoughts welcome

Cannot comment on the other versions, but I have a pair of crocs which I live in when at home and wandering round the local village. Had them for about 2 years now and they are still going strong.

Two thumbs up for crocs from me.
I have 2 pairs of the specialist vent ones. I got the first pair from work, being on my feet all day in the hospital can take its toll on you but these are extremely comfy. so much so I bought myself a pair for at home.
I wear my home pair all through the summer.

Sportsdirect usually have em in cheap. Love mine. Hated them until I got a pair. They're like summer wellies.

Best foot wear ever invented, mines arent far away from having traveled all the way around the globe, wouldnt be without them from spring to autumn, spend the extra cash and get the crocs!!, you buy cheap you buy twice is one thing that always worries me with cheaper stuff!!

Croc tan was one that got me, they have little holes in them, i wondered what was up with my feet they were all spotty!!


Mike, whats the specialist vent ones? they only had one type when i bought mines in 2005!! the sole tread has wore of mines and I have toyed with the idea of taking a soldering iron to them to retread them lol

Brilliant footwear, if you go for cheaper ones make sure you try them on first. I use them as slippers around the house, sandals around town and summer camps.

My wife got a cheapish pair, cos she wouldn't pay the money for crocs, hardly wore them. I got her some Crocs in a sale, and they have been hardly off her feet for about 18 months now. She wears them in the house instead of slippers, pottering in the garden and camping.

Original non-crocs are now in the bin.

my non crocs are ok for pottering in the garden, but not much else you can feel every little bump in them.
save some more money and buy the proper ones, a fair few pairs in the local sports direct as well

Hey, I find them very useful around camp, and around home. Here they are strapped to my backpack when I was hiking last summer:

The cheap copies from e bay are fine
I have taken the strap off mine as I use them when camping for bumming about camp and for bladder evacuation sorties during the night
I also use them as slippers and in fact am wearing them now
I have used them canoeing in summer but they are rubbish for that. Too slippy on mud
I always swore I would never wear Crocs and indeed I don't wear the real deal; but they are a handy style and the price difference for my limited needs is a no brainer
Still wouldn't wear them in a public setting

Just to mention the TK Maxx thing again, I've seen several pairs in there recently for £15 or £16 - total bargain. I have a coupleof pairs, different types and I have to be honest, I cant see why anyone has a bad thing to say about them - they are great!

Crofters use Crocs a lot up here in the summer. The old alternative was wellies to keep your feet dry tromping through peat bogs, across burns and in and out of boats. Now with crocs you just embrace getting wet, knowing you'll dry out quickly and without discomfort.

One word of warning - they suck in snow.

The specialist vent ones were designed for hospital environments; they have thicker squishy soles, 3 air vents on either side of the foot and the upper is stiffened to resist sharp items accidentaly dropped on your foot.. i'll post a pic in a minute

Cotswold Rock Bottom in GRasmere once had a load of them on offer for £10 a year ago now with these kind of fleecey/wooley inserts. REckon you could take those insert sock things out for warmer weather.

Personally no matter how good they are I will never be seein in one unless you bribe me with plenty of toys to do it. And it would have to be a rather big pile of toys too (fancy knives, mapping gps, UL tents, UL tarps, etc.). I know a few hospital workers who get them issued for work (and also their garden but best not talk about that).

Thats the origin of Brogues, originally the holes went all the way through. Later became just decorative.
Like many, always hated Croc until I got a pair. Would like a slightly stiffer sole though.
