The ULTIMATE kit for bushcraft

  • Hey Guest, Early bird pricing on the Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August) available until March 31st, we'd love you to come. PLEASE CLICK HERE to early bird price and get more information.
The only thing you really need it your brain and skills to survive, but a good knife will be a big help, as will be someway to start a fire, and something to cook in is always nice. Hard to know just what you are looking for, as don't know what you want the kit for.
Is it to be a bug out kit or something like that? Or just something to take with you on a day hike?

'ULTIMATE' can refer to just about anything that you would like to have for bushcraft purposes but simply cannot or will not afford, be it knife, axe, stove, woodland, even time - which, incidentally, is no longer available in carbon fibre ;) ...

A large 4x4 off road camper based around a hydrogen fuel cell!!
Probably have to fund the research first though......................money not a prob, well!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what your saying about 'money no object' but, and i hope i'm not alone here, i've had some absolutely cracking kit; from custom made knives, through clothing and everything else. I just cannot bring myself to use half of it! So, off it goes, through classifieds and e-bay and i stick with good but reasonably priced stuff.

Call me a tight Yorkshireman, but some of the knives i've had have been absolutely gorgeous and they have been made to be used. I just see the workmanship that has gone into them and, to be honest, the cost. I have to sell them to allow someone who does not have this crippling affliction and who will use them for what they were meant.

I have to say though that a good sized plot in Alberta would be nice. Log cabin, woodland, possibly a river or lake. I don't know whether it's because it's a bushcraft dream or whether i'm so disillusioned with society that i'd like to remove myself and my family from it for safety reasons.

So, basic stuff for me, basic but quality. I think, going by my bushcrafting experience, the one thing i treasure the most is the company. Good company is priceless, yet costs nothing. Whether it's a group of like minded individuals or the wife, Jed jnr and the dogs. If the company is wrong it can spoil the occasion, if it's good, you never want to go home!

Money means no have to work, so all time can be spent doing what you want, and can live the way you want.

So should the numbers come out on Saturday, anyone know of any good highland places?

One place in wales always fancied wonder how much it would be worth.....

The Cairngorms would be a place and a half: big, tundra-like tops, lakes and the Caledonian forest. It should be enough to keep most people happy. :D

In terms of worth, it usually depends on what the vendor thinks you'll be prepared to pay for it. Nowadays, credit crunch aside, folk are a huge amount more savvy than they once were, particularly when it comes to property and land... :( :puppy_dog

Gold wood burners aside, what would you recommend as the very best personal kit for bushcraft, money no object? Why would you recommend these things?

New Zealand 'cos it's FUN I've been twice, want to go AGAIN! it's beautiful and awe inspiring and breathtaking, you get the picture. :red: THE BEST kit for bushcraft is the country, the Maori, the white folks, my mum & sis live there, but I baggsy(!!??) Lake Taupo sorry had to done. Well you did ask! (My wife's sensible edit.)

apart from the origial stuff i said before i'd take:
(some of which i have, some i'll grab when the mood takes me...)
Canon EOS 40D DSLR + suitable lenses etc,
bush pod pro in green with noseeum net + tarp,
down sleeping bag,
leica binos/ (digi)spotting scope,
night vision gear,
GB sfa (nice one),
Golite hex3 if the weathers bad,
jenna jameson blow up doll if the weathers bad,
any decent knife,
ullfrotte/ howies/ scandanavian clothes,
quiet version of my msr dragonfly,
new version iphone.

nice.

I know why Jenna Jameison, just the blow up doll bit. It's a bit like driving a rally car on a games machine; quite enjoyable when your doing it, but afterwards it feels quite shallow and ultimately unsatisfying.

time,a nice fire,a hot cuppa and jump in to your hammockt, some light rain on your tarp, and that feeling of being one with nature, theres nothing more ultimate than that,

its a lot like jumping onto a blow up doll....just plain wrong!!

anyway, I think (hope) we're both agreed until woodlore start selling one its just best left as a joke and that we would even never consider doing it...again :)

sorry to mess with the thread.

No mate, it's not you, it's me. Yeah, i know you were only messing. I've got this mate who worships Jenna like a godess and treats blow up dolls and the like as an insult to his beloved. Strange bloke in a strange place in his life and, as he feesed up to me merely minutes before i saw your initial post, i could not help myself. Anyway, reading my comments back now, all i can say is, it seemed like a good idea at the time!

Anyway, i could'nt afford a Woodlore version!

hey Jebadiah mate, its all good :)

the more i think it, this thread is a great question.

you kind of scale up and up in what you'd like to the point of helicopter etc etc and then just keep coming full circle to only needing the simplest of items and enjoying the fact that one of the main points is to get away from it all.

i honestly cant think of a time i left anything behind and it was a problem, but nearly everytime i've been out i took things i could've left behind. less is more and all that.
