And that there are a few shisters willing to take advantage! I think I'm gonna ban myself from the stevie threads as I just seem to be getting progressively more and more annoyed about the whole thing.

The person who lives in such a fantasy world really needs help, and sad though that may be, I think what may be sadder, is that if someone is genuinely in distress in the future will those who responded and felt gullible, be less inclined to help?

The on-line communities in BcUK, BB, SoTP, etc., are full of friendly, helpful and genuinely decent people; I don't think anyone needs to apologise or feel shamed for being concerned for another's family in apparant distress over a loved one in a perilous situation. If anything it shows a very genuine regard for the well being of others, and a willingness to help if possible.

You are very good people to know :You_Rock_ :D

I get wound up easily at this sort of thing as I have met and known a few people like that through the years and it was a horrible thing to be around these 'Munchausens' as they spieled their tripe off. I knew one guy, whilst i was in the forces, who insisted on saying he was a Para trained PTI! (Edit to say: He worked at National Tyres and Autocare as a YTS trainee!) I also know a guy in the Royal Signals who goes on and on about being in an elite unit, we all know that he isn't though!

I just don't know why people have to make these stories up to big themselves up. I've never seen it at the meets I've been to, people seem so genuine and take each other at face value. Who cares if you can climb Everest with a broken leg wearing roller skates? What matters is that we all sat around the fire, ripped the mickey out of politicians and such that we can't do here, and had a really good laugh! I enjoyed my time with everybody I've met at the meets and can genuinely say there is not one person I haven't liked. I'm sure that says something about most people here.

And in 2 1/2 weeks we will be doing it again :D

I'm not sure how I feel about this really. As with many of the BB posters I'm glad that no one was actually injured/ killed, no children without fathers/mothers, wives/husbands without partners etc.

I was astounded by the out pouring of genuine concern and respect that demonstrated that despite all the rubbish that goes on in our lives this day and age something as impersonal as an Internet forum can foster such a strong sense of family and friendship that is sadly now so lacking in many areas of our lives.

But I can't help but be a little saddened by what I've read in a couple of threads in the last two days. Threats of violence to a member discussed (not made by any BCUK on this forum) in one thread and now that this story is in all probability fictional.

I guess I also feel like I've been taken advantage of a little particularly when I recall some posts that implied sat phone conversations and visits with the family which only added to the plausibility, were these false also or were these people seriously duped?

Not the end of the world and from what I hear something of a good story at least but still a bit of a sad day in BCUK world I think.

It was an entertaining read, after his first post I thought it was BS, easy to say that now as the truth has now come out.

But do you honestly think a wife that thinks her husband may be dead would have gone onto the BB forums???

I just find it a bit sad that some one went to those lenths to attract attention on a forum.
I have come across a lot of walter mitty types in my life and I am sure I will meet a few more yet.

Also sad that people were taken for a fool by this guy, the members were genuinly concerned and were happy to have him back.

If you are reading this Stevie mate, you are totally pathhetic, you haven't even got b##ls to come on either here or BB and say sorry or to admit you were just making it up.

He just posted a while back on BB. The thread is now locked whilst the Mods and Admin there make a decision, hopefully on the best way to string him up by his...........

$orry about that, got carried away! Anyway, he has recieved a ban of 28 days, and his post seems almost like a total admission that he made it all up. That's how I read it anyway. If you feel you want to, go and read it and make up your own mind. It's a pretty $orry thing though.

I've noticed a few comments like the one above and I think its time to nip it in the bud.

I have stayed out of this as much as I can and I know I am not a Mod on this forum but can I remind the members that we have community rules about making personal attacts against people be they members or not. I know this issue has caused alot of bad feeling towards the person involved and I fully understand why but BCUK is not the place to vent your anger.... there are many forums out there that will allow you to do this, but BCUK is not one of them.

So please.... before you post remind yourself of the rules and keep personal attacks against ANYONE off the forum.

this might be playing devil's advocate, but i doubt this bloke has any mental defect. the 'problem' with any forum is that it is nearly always devoted to a particular theme/fanbase/ethic/lifestyle choice etc, and as such is open to abuse from internet p*ss-takers. is inventing a plane-crash any worse than most of the comedy on tv? in this media-saturated world we live in, the 'shock-tactic bar' is being raised higher every day.
in no way am i suggesting that i find it particularly amusing, or that anyone who was fooled was a sucker(i never posted, but followed with genuine interest and concern).
my guess is this is either a genuine tale of wonder, or a full-on b*llsh*t.
if everyone is feeling against the first theory, then surely any further comment on the subject is fuelling the delight of whoever started this all off
just a thought...

What's "black ops"? I saw it mentioned a couple of times on BB - is it some sort of
'secret mission'? I suppose that's a logical guess, it's just the the phrase isn't one I'm
familiar with.
