H folks,
just been up to Stanton Moor yesterday & some moron had vandalised the area around the Nine Ladies standing stones, litter everywhere & some idiot (I used a rather stronger term at the time) had even smeared a four letter word on the information board in human waste. Personally I think the "idiot" who did this should be made to eat his "crayon". This sort of thing makes me so angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It`s a great spot at Stanton Moor having been there a few times over the years.

The problem is that the kind of people who do these types of things, are usually mindless morons who have no respect for anything apart from themselves. Unfortunately it`s a waste of oxygen even talking to these pondlife. No offence to frogs of course !!

Lets just hope they get a grip on themselves and stop ruining things for the rest of us.

This makes me really angry too. The thing is.. can you stop this ? These people are so far gone they do not know any better. I've came to that conclusion. I live near a beautiful area in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland and I see this all the time in the woodland areas. The worst I saw ever was this year when I came across an area of woodland where people had stopped for a party overnight . They had actually brought a bag of coal with them and lit a fire, left all their beer cans , throw away barbecues, left over food and left a full bag of coal , with everything left in the wood . An absolute disgrace ,but how can you stop this .

We also see household waste being dumped from time to time in the forests here.

(by the way don't get me wrong it's really nice here , it's only sometimes this happens but when it does it really annoys you)

I really don't see how you can get it through to these people or how you can stop this . To these people the countryside seems to be a big free dumping ground.

It makes me sad

I don't know.... I really don't know

I live only 10 mins from Delamere Forest. I walk there most days with the canine idiot I call a dog. Not 5 mins from the road there is regular evidence of people practicing some form of t.v inspired bushcraft. The bones of shelters tried and failed, the remains of a fire, the plastic bags of rubbish ready meals, pre-packed barbeques, empty beer cans and piles of crap. I was so bloody disgusted by the sight last week I took photo's just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

Low and behold, two days later the shelter had been improved and added to. The fire scar was growing and the rubbish had been replaced (I carry a bin bag, pack it and bin it. An old habit taught by David Bellamy) by more cans, different wrappers and fresh excrament.

I'd hate to think that someone that uses this forum is to blame but who knows?

All you can do is clear it up and hope. (or lurk in the shadows with a really nice longbow)

Mike, this is exactly what drove me to a thread on 'respect' a couple of weeks ago. Really pleased that you too are big enough to pick up other peoples litter :You_Rock_

I had the same expeience a few years ago. I was in the peak district on summer solstice and decided to visit a couple of ancient circles.
One, I think was arbor low, someone had scratched 'this is not a f****ing tourist attraction' on the sign.........um well it sort of is actually, we are all tourists to this sort of monument.
The other, I think was 9 ladies, in a little wood, a group of people were sitting around, campfire, singing, which could have all been very pleasant if not for the empty 'stella' boxes and bottles littered around.
I quitely slipped away, we drove back to our b+b and enjoyed the evening by a local river.

I was talking to an archaeologist whilst working - guiding only- at the Woodhenge dig. It had just been made public on the archaeology forums that someone had taken a spray can to Skara Brae.

4000 year old houses but the scrote had to tag them,

People will never cease to amaze me.

When me and my brother camp, we leave the woods as we find it. No excuses. We dont even leave our bracken mattresses but scatter it about so it looks natural. Its a disgrace that this sort of thing happens. People who do this are a different species to us lot, and i agree with Logray, they are too far gone to be taught any different.

You want to hear the really stupid thing..............you are not allowed to point out the error of their ways to them as a copper.

Nothing like tagging an ancient building or littering an area of significance but, I was wandering in to the Police Station one day (in civvies) a toadie was wandering towards me from the other direction sipping from his can of lager. He puts his empty can down on the steps of the nick and goes in, to sign on for his bail as it turned out. I picked up the can, went in, nodded at the sergeant behind the desk, tapped the toadie on the shoulder and got the usual vacant look, handed him his can and said, "I think you forgot this, drop it in a bin", turned to the Sarge and said "buzz me in please". Toadie started mumbling something and I turned and said "there was a bin 4 feet away from where you put it, so don't start with excuses".

The Sarge had a word with my Sarge because he thought my behaviour had been inappropriate. There's worse but I will not bore you, they are putting uniformed social workers and not coppers on the streets nowadays. Toadies laugh at the system because it is ineffective and has no real means of admonishment.

The whole system is breaking down - we aren't allowed to tell kids their behaviour is wrong (as teachers), just that we believe it is wrong to punch their peers!

I believe (and strongly hope) that as a result of the media hysteria over violence we're about to have a major backlash.

No, I don't believe you're a tw#t, you are a tw#t. (For # read i).

Big sigh, rant over (for now).

At the risk of this thread beginning to sound like a meeting of the BNP Law & Order Committee the only thing you can do is pick up after them and wish them a nasty accident as they make their way home.

The system is weak. It's not the fault of the cops who probably would like nothing more for it to go back to the old days of giving a lippy kid a thick ear. It's the politicians. I know we don't do politics here, so I'll say no more other than politics is show business for ugly people!

I am a PC myself and I would have done the same thing as you.
As for the winging skipper I would have told him where to stick the can!

I'd like to make a point - in every society there are those who forget their responsibilities to each other. I wonder why it's no longer OK to remind those people in ours?

Becasue they'll kick your head in. Or if you kick their head in you'll feel the full weight of the law on you pronto.

I've spent the last 15 years working with/against the underclass and I now manage a team of officers who try to control the actions of tenants on one of the worst council estates in the north east. In that time I've seen just about every species and degree of scroat, charver, kiddie-fiddler and ponce and there is really nothing you can do with them. You can't "educate" them into acting responsibly or expect them to think about the consequences of their actions as their whole life experience has taught them that their actions hardly ever have consequences and if they do somebody else will come along and sort out the mess.

All you can do is keep your distance, have as little contact as possible and if you find they've desecrated your favourite spot pick up the mess.

WE have a big problem with fly tipping in our area and I fear it will only get worse with 'pay as you dump'!

Society does certainly seem to be the toilet, what a worry!:(

Precisely. Having them relatively young I would have thought that I could point out the error of their ways, but not a bit of it - I see that those you deal with are probably beyond redemtion but the kids I work with shouldn't be failed and let slide into that situation.

All it takes is for good men to do nothing - an abbreviation, but something has to happen (either that or I emigrate quicker).

I agree our society is sliding down the pan, we all have a responsibility to do something about it, other than walking by and cleaning up after them. I'm not going to put myself in position where some chav and his mates can set about me - but a bunch of people can make a difference.

That's what a society is - isn't it? We're in the majority, but the tiny minority underclass seem to affect us all the most. I feel the best bits of this country are eroding, our society, our ever shrinking (beautiful) countryside and our skills base (outside this forum and BB I'll grant you). I for one don't want to see it disappear into the ashes.

Give it a few more years and we'll hit rock bottom. The only way then is upwards. It makes me think with all of the violence in the media at the moment, and so much is not reported. There seems to be an awful number of young people being stabbed, and that poor young lad that was shot the other week. Also some youths that have been found guilty of manslaughter for throwing rocks at an old man and causing a heart attack. Society is on the slide and going down that slide rapidly.

When the time comes, they can give me a big stick. I'll whack ill disciplined yobs for free! :D
