I had, not owned, two LR Defender 90s, from early 1990s to 2003, for my work on Dartmoor, neither were new to me, but I had not one bit of trouble with either of them. ….Amazing I know!

I've bought far too much stuff, lately. Albeit with good reason.

Red veined sorrel seeds
Macro rings
SD and micro SD card holder
100L paper bags for garden waste
Brazing rods and flux
Pure tin sheet metal
Battery adapter (to run a DSLR off an external battery or mains adapter)
A shirt and a pair of trousers.

Oh, that sounds fun.

Day off so I got a load of groceries and some odds and ends.

Shop right out of those handy sized dehumidifier pots...quite an idea in a static, I find.

No, the Landlady is wondering why I have so much food in.

But, as I told her; I come from a place shopping is easy.

Here the nearest shop is ten miles away.

Plenty of storage in a Static, so I am well stocked up on ingredients.

If I want food I just cook it.

Just received in the post today: a vintage French Pigeon Lamp. A lovely brass lamp that’s about 9” tall and has, I think, its original glass shade. It has a handle on the back, you can use that to fasten it to a nail or hook on the wall. I think they’re meant to burn the equivalent of white spirit. On the front it says “inexplosible a l’essence minerale”. The only thing it hasn’t got, is a little cap on a chain, to stop the fuel from evaporating when not in use. Hopefully,I can find a suitable replacement cap and some chain. It cost me £20 or so on eBay- I was the only bidder.

They're designed to run on Naptha, aka Aspen or Colemans fuel. Paraffin is a very poor subsitute to use in as they tend to soot up and don't give as bright a flame.

What I and most other lamp enthusiasts use as a replacement for naptha is brake and clutch cleaner which is easily sourced online

When you say Coleman’s, you do mean this, the fuel that’s similar to petrol, what I use in my Svea 223r? Thought I’d check before burning the old house down!

I see why a cap for the wick is necessary now, it’ll evaporate like nobodies business. I’ll have to rig something up. I got my Colemans off Amazon, not cheap…at all!

Yup, Coleman's and Aspen are both just about the same thing, a highly refined petroleum distallate.

So is brake and clutch fluid which I use in my Coleman 425E, Svea 123 and other stoves , pigeon lamps and miners lamps without any issue and the bonus is it's a lot cheaper than either

This is what happened after Steve introduced me to Pigeon Lamps!

I threw caution to the wind, put some Coleman’s in it, started it outside first and brought it in when all seemed safe. Must say, I’m very impressed- could certainly see me getting another so I can have a pair, one either side of the mantle piece.
I have a miner’s type lamp, actually a GPO one, The Protector Type 1A that I put paraffin in, it just keeps going out. I’m assuming one uses Coleman’s, or equivalent in that also. Makes sense as it also has wadding in the reservoir, like the pigeon lamp.
