Leather boxes

[Dreadhead]

In between orders this weekend I really fancied doing something different so made a couple of leather boxes.

Leather tool box carved with pictish spirals. Loosely inspired by the wooden toolbox from the 6-9th century found in Orkney. I've hot waxed this to make it as stiff as wood to hold my dark ages tools is fastened each end with a Sam Browne stud for transporting.

And second is a little leather box drawer. This is the first of 9 I need to make to fill the wooden frame I have, to tidy tools away. Also hot waxed to make it stiff.

Both a bit of experimental fun. It all started with making a custom money box a few months ago which was all tooled with green oak leaves which was a lot if fun hopefully I'll be making more of these

How do you sew the corners?

it's called a box-stitch would you have it involving curved awl and needles to create the join you can see in the photos that the long side overlap the ends

oh aye the knife does have a sheath, just took it off to show the blade in the photo. currently making a new sheath for it right now as the first one was an experiment that's become a little loose

Nice looking sheath. much prettier than the one mine lives in (mind you, my head knife is also a cheap POS that I bought years ago and haven't replaced yet!). The handle looks much better stained too
