New Design.... Nessmuk

Hi guys.

Well, finally got round to designing a knife based on the Nessmuk.

First one just had a scandi grind, doing 2 more in RWL with full flats next week.

What do you all think?

Oh yeah, dimensions would help wouldn't they....

blade is around 4.5" as is the handle to 9" overall.

They will be made as standard in 3mm in 01 and 3.2mm in RWL-34

That looks good indeed! Can't tell the scale though; what's the blade length?

Very nice Mark! I'm not a huge fan of nessmuks to be honest, but your design is very pleasing. I'd definitely prefer it with a higher grind though. I can see it being an excellent user in the field.

Me too, it's got the looks alright. Like Rob said, FF with a secondary would give it the best of both worlds. Or a high scandi/sabre down to secondary to give it some splitting capability.

Mind you, I've seen what you put your test blades through, so I'd go full flat.

The original Nessie was pretty specialised in that it was a pure game knife...Both a skinning and fleshing tool. These days... very few would appreciate the design as it was intended... not many make their own hides from an animal they've shot. It was a good design, back when folks did other things with their knives. The trade hasn't continued much through hunters... factories take the job of tanning on now.... very little is done at home.

We adapt though. times change, needs change.... But, we can try keep the concept alive... through adaptation..... the tool has changed.... but the spirit lives on

Two coming.. one with Thuya burl, one with Afzelia burl.... 3.2mm RWL, Full flat, small secondary.. hand rubbed to 1000g...... Give it until the end of next week.

They'll start at £140 with a scandi grind like the one above... or £165 with a full flat. Same price as my other bushys.
