There's been a few threads over the years where people have helped each other get fitter and lose weight, any takers if i create one for the new year (which really isn't far away now) I might put it in the hygiene/first aid/medical forum....not sure yet.

I just thought i'd see if it would be popular and worth starting?
 
I'd be interested, I do the 5-2/6-1 diet now and then and run a bit... Certainly helped me shift weight..
 
Count me in. I'm seriously in the worst shape of my life. Need to lose at least 56lbs before my head explodes with great sadness...:(

Ideally i would like to lose 80+ lb's over the next couple of years and be able to keep it off.

Please go ahead, I'm sure there are ten fold people who would be interested that maybe don't want to post a yes on hear, a lot of people can't except they need to get fitter and healthier, many cant get self motivated to make a difference but would welcome help,

Doc's New Year Weight Loss Motivation thread in 2011 kicked me off losing weight and getting fit. Went from 16 stone down to 12 - I'm now a keen fell and trail runner when before I couldn't even run 100m.

Can't recommend it highly enough!

I fast probably 3 days a week minimum. My weight has never changed, but I'm just rarely hungry. A history of beanstalks in my family. I'm 6 foot 2 and about 11 stone last I checked

Next year though, I plan to start eating vegetables and fruit. Havnt had any in about a month :/ cannot wait for Christmas lunch. Brussle sprouts and parsnips. Heaven. I just hate cooking in my shared flat. Rubbish oven, even worse electric plate hob. When I'm with my parents I cook them dinner every opportunity I can. Normally daily. But they get hesitant because alas my food background gave me a taste of the finer things so my cooking and shopping reflects that.

I need to sort out my nutrition pronto before something happens.
 
Do you have a microwave in your shared kitchen ?
If you do, then buy a couple of pyrex casserole dishes, the little ones with lids. (between four and six pounds just now in the supermarkets) Vegatables steam beautifully in them. No fuss, no bother, and easy cleaned out glass dish, and since it's lidded you don't even need to clean someone else's crap out of the micro first (I have seen some shared ones that were in dire need of being nuked to clean them)
No one should go a month without fruit and veg. I'd starve :)

Gingered carrots are brilliant in the micro, so are baked spuds, though I suppose they're really steamed spuds. You can even bake fruit cake and sponge in the pyrex in the micro too.

Microwave is equally as bad (and I have a big issue with using microwaves, I just don't like them). I have what you would call a rogue landlord, but it is central london, and it is the best I could get on my student loan budget without having to live with other students. It's been 4 months and I still have no new contract, it has been 16 months and I still have no security deposit documentation or receipt.. One of the biggest issues is that everything runs on electric and off a pre pay meter (including heating) We will oven get through £10 of electricity in 36 hours (i found one flatmate outside a week ago cooking his breakfast on a newspaper fuelled grill). I've had my fun buying knives etc, but I'm a student, and my living budget is rock solid and set in stone. I cannot bring myself to start putting savings towards my bills. That is a slippery slope.

Next year I shall change things though :) that's the plan (ha)

I have no idea what your issue is with microwaves, all they do it heat up the water molecules very effectively, but I think your no fruit and veg is worse for you than worrying about it.

Each to their own, but that's a ridiculous price for electricity.
The little 'suitcase' gas stoves are both cheap and stable. They even have little adapters that make brilliant toast :)
One stove and four cans of gas lasted me for nearly five weeks cooking for two and three. Total cost ? £12.

The stoves are on sale just now for 8, and four cans of butane/propane are 4, in Home Bargains, etc.
On the bay, a bit more expensive.

It is actually sooo very easy; cut out the crap in your diet!

No refined sugars, no empty carbs and no processed foods. You'll lose weight by just doing that.
In order to get fit again.... Well, that does take some effort, but avoiding conveniences like cars, elevators or electrical appliances for every s**t job in and around the house should increase your fitness a lot already without handing over tons of cash in a gym.

No magical formula or fancy quick and easy way.

Guys I would support this massively, im a fitness lecturer by trade. I have been a personal trainer over 15 year, now I teach the personal training qualifications all over the country and work for one of the highest training providers in world.
I will be willing to post up some video's to help everyone achieve their goals. But just to point out I won't have time to answer pm's individually so if you ask a question I can answer as many as I can in video format. Let me know if you want my help
 
It's getting late for this too be counted as new year, you guys up for starting a thread now? I've already started trying to get some weight off and get fitter again and I'm sure that there's a few others as well :D
