Had a Great day thank you should of dome it when you first told me about the OWBM.. but hey I get round to things in the end, nice 2 x 20, with 3D's ranging from a skunk to a Cara boo, to a dinosaur, to black panther.. the list goes on..
I Helped set up yesterday, which sort of put some dread in me on how bad some of the target were going to be to hit... so with trepidation, I arrived at about 9:15 this morning, and got my kit out the car, I was placed in a group of four... 74 Archers on all turned up.
The First round I did quite well, with 288 score..well for a first shot anyway, some of the distances got me but started to figure it out, lol, and even got a 24 on the bedded Elk.. so was very happy there...
Second Round well let say first ten or so Targets sort of cocked up a bit only getting 3rd wounds, or totally missing, but then started to pull back, with 1st wounds and a 1st kill, all in all ended up with a total of 485,
OK not a brilliant score with an AFB, but I am Happy.. as it was a great day weather was grand, one thin I did learn was don't wear a baggy top, think that was also a problem on the second round, I had taken it off at lunchtime, and rushed to put it on, until I noticed it was getting caught buy the string... once I had rearrange the Sleeve, that's when I started to pull back the shoots...
..Killed a few trees as well
..... Three of them on one Target.. .Did not lose or Break any arrows, one poor bloke only had one arrow left from his set of 12 he had started with...

That great news. Lots of guys don't like the food stop as it mucks up their shooting for some reason the break puts their aim off. The club has some great targets, just wish we could put a hill or two and a valley in there too shake things up. Did you try turning that wayward arrow around and did it help?
No did not I left it in the car just in case I needed it, to make the numbers up

The Bucktrail Black hawk shot well, was easy to draw, seemed to be steady when holding the draw to aim, and delivered the power and when I got it right it delivered the accuracy, it was comfortable and light, the only thing I would change is to put some Nockking points on... for me not to bad because I am quite good at seeing when the arrow is at right angle with the string..
Saying that I think I could of coped with a heavier draw weight and easily got on with it, not that I need it, but it would of given me less need to aim high on a couple of the long ones....
I would not get a Back quiver now, my one is going to be modified for a side quiver...

I am like a dog chasing his tail when using a back quiver, they look good and can hold lots of arrows but that's about it for me.

Hi folks. I came across big stu 12 on another forum and followed the trail here. Never done wild camping before and not been regular camping for years. Just been on eBay and ordered a few bits and I'm going to give it a go solo this weekend providing everything arrives.

You're basically up the road from me... so feel free to give me a shout if you want to do a night out. It's always a good idea to have someone there who's been doing it regularly for some time to bounce questions off of.
Do you leave the backstop there the whole time gang? I have some animal paper targets you could have to put on it, that way you could have three targets to shoot at?
Now i am a tenter and never been in a hammock and like the idea but then I see how much stuff you need to put it up and keep warm and think, I will keep with my tent, sleepingbag and matt. As it seems lighter to carry them than the hammock, ropes, underblanket, tarp, ,sleepingbag.
I have been thinking of getting a deeper mat for winter but also thought about a campbed. so I had a small look and came across a oztent bunker, which looks great but for £395 is it really worth it?
May need to find something a little less cash wise...........

I'm not sure I agree with your thinking there (not trying to "convert" you or anything, just want to provide some insight).
With the tent you're carrying a lot more material, plus the rods (which weigh more than any ridgeline does in most cases).
Couple of tree straps, a bit of paracord (or suitably strong cordage) for a ridgeline, a hammock, a pair of simple whoopie slings, the tarp with pegs and a few karabiners. I get all that into a 12.5 litre Bergen "rocket pocket" easily.
As for keeping warm... pitch it low so that when you're laying in it, it's a few inches off the ground (and if your straps are good, there won't be any stretching to worry about), throw your thermarest (or whatever mat you currently use) in the hammock and hang a blanket (USGI Poncho Liner works great and is super light anyway) under the hammock and you'll be every bit as warm as you are on the ground.
Yes, you may need to tie a few knots you don't need to bother with when tenting... but it certainly doesn't weigh more than the tent, and it's a lot easier to find suitably-placed trees than it is to find suitably-flat ground imho.
Again... not trying to start a debate or anything... this is just my viewpoint for the sake of understanding.

I only go by what I see on here with the hammock and the gear that can or cannot go with it. As I was saying I like the tent but keep thinking should I go for something else and see how that goes, no right or wrong way of camping. I will look up the items you wrote about and see how big everything is.

we have put the Back stop and 3D's under a tarp for now, keep the a bit protected, I did order a couple of paper targets for it, but they did not arrive till Saturday, Got a Pheasant, a rabbit, and a Hare....
I do like teh Hammocks, and have used them, but going back towards the Deck at the mo, its not really much kit once you get used to it , not sure I prefer the Hammock now, But investigating Camp bed just to get a bit higher off the deck..
The OZ tent stuff is nice but ... as you say so is the price, lol
I'm beginning to think now that The whole hammock is lighter/heavier than tent thing really depends on the gear and personal preference for how you want to spemd the night. I have a 2 person (read 1 in comfort) backpacking tent. It weighs a kilo and is about the size of a 2 litre coke bottle. I've also got a canvas bell tent that weighs over 20 kilos (before the stove) last session in the woods I used the hammock as a ground nest and was able to leave some of the insulation I used when hanging it behind. So far I'm finding hammocking heavier. (And makes me wee more overnight) but come the wet ground in winter I may change my mind.
I'll keep experimenting and getting the experience until I find what works for me. Couldn't make this weekend but doing a woodlife trails tracking course next weekend, I'm going to experiment with a slimmed down cook system and pick up some more words of wisdom.
