Girls, lets talk clothes.

I had a equipment shake down trip yesterday that showed up a few limitations in my kit, primarily with my trousers. Currently I am using a cheap pair of ladies trousers from decathlon that are very comfy. But, the moment the brambles or the nettles come out to play, things get uncomfortable.

So, I am on the look out for a new pair of trousers for outdoor use. My main requirements are:

- Pockets - Nothing stupid, one on each side that my phone won't fall out of. Beyond that I don't really need any more, I'll only fill them with things I forget about until after they come out the washing machine.
- Lightweight - I would like to use these when travelling, where I will need to carry more than 1 pair, weight in the pack is important.
- Quick drying - Self explanatory
- Nettle proof - Self explanatory
- Bramble resistant - I won't say proof on this one, I swear brambles are evolving stronger thorns...
- Price - I would rather not have to get another mortgage to buy them
- Ladies fit - My experiment with Men's fit trousers was not comfortable
- Not pink - It seems that outdoor kit companies can only make female fit kit in pink. Black, Khaki, Brown, all good. Pink or OD, less so.

Given that list, ladies, can you help?

Thanks

J

Don't try the Craghoppers :sigh: at the last count I think my pair has 11 pockets. I jest you not, there's even a hidden pocket behind a patch pocket behind a flap one :dunno: and they bumpfle around the waist as though to fit six months pregnant too.

Usually I just skiddle around in trousers I buy in the EWM outlet. I buy the woollen ones and so far they've been brilliant. I tried a M&S pair and they ripped first time out, so while smart enough, they just weren't up for it.

When I was slimmer, the Rohan ladies trousers were excellent :D and smart enough for travelling; a touch expensive though unless you hit a good sale. The North Face ones (which I can get back into :D :D) are both comfortable, UV blocking, easy dry and hard wearing, but they always look rumpled. Nothing short of hot steam ironing unrumples them either.

Danish and Italian armed services trousers (winter ones) are worth every penny if you can get hold of them. Someone said the same about the Norwegian ones too, though they were on a longer narrower cut :dunno:

Good thread; I'm hoping for tips too :D

cheers,
M

Whilst certainly not a lady, I suggest that "bramble resistant" and "lightweight / quick drying" are unlikely to combine in a garment.

Whilst they have more pockets than you might desire, I suggest 5.11 as a brand. Their poly cotton ripstop cargos are very, very tough (three years of every day wear on the homestead running machinery, gardening, running barbed wire etc. to wreck a pair). Not lightweight though. They do lightweight versions, and those with less pockets - but the thorn resistance is compromised. They do make ladies versions - they are designed to be "duty" (uniform) trousers for prison officers, paramedics, police etc. in the US - who clearly have many female officers.

Like BR I doubt seriously that you'll find anything that combines lightweight with thorn resistance. My go-to is still blue jeans (preferably Dickies) Other options for bramble resistance might be bird hunting pants made especially for wading through thorns; they're usually faced with Cordura. here's one example but there are many other such styles with even simpler pockets www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=1G1R I can't directly link the site to Gander Mountain showing the Wranglers but you should find it if you Google Wrangler Mens Upland Jean - Gander Mountain. Not ladies clothing per se; more unisex.

Thank GB. I could find it, I just couldn't link it. But that's not the site I found; the one I found by searching as I did, went directly to the ad for the pants.

Yeah that's the one. Thanks. My computer won't let me paste the link link them when the hyperlink has the .... abbreviation at my end. Well it will, but it won't actually be a hyperlink in the post.

I like the 5.11 TDU in ripstop, They do a cotton twill version(not sure about ladies fit) too which is softer. The waist band has elastic adjustment which I find very comfortable. good range of sensible pockets. well made, reasonably priced.

negatives, they use Velcro on the leg pocket flaps so I added pop studs on top just to stop them coming undone after getting caught on stuff and with fuller pockets bending down loosens the velcro. knee pads don't offer much protection. sizing on the mens version, there isn't much choice but if they are anything like the ladies fit go one size up from normal or better still go and try some.
