Got to watch this tonight

  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I dont particularly like him, and in some parts i didnt like the show. "his" constant, im only going to use materials from this wood and that are scrap rang like a load of &*%$ to me, but its better than most of the tripe on TV of late.

I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed. Like Jimmy's Treehouse (or whatever it was called), it was a bit short on useful info, and long on t!tting around. However, as has been said, it beats Lax Factor etc etc.

Not sure how long he's intending that shack to stay there, but he's screwed when the tyres inevitably perish.

I really liked the Jimmys Forest thing actually and found it far and away more practical.

The way the company I've worked for in the past does it with transportable lodges is that its moved into place, jacked up level then the wheels are removed. When they want to move it they fit the wheels again and move it onto the back of a lorry and away to where they need it.
They can leave the wheels on if the customer wants but it doesn't matter as they are jacked high enough that they aren't touching the ground anyway.
Then they build a set of three or so steps upto either the door or decking by the door.

Those are 40 or so feet long and the singles are 14 foot wide though so quite a lot bigger than that thing Kevin was bodging up.
The doubles are as long but twice as wide at 28 feet. They go out the doors on two lorries and are joined back together on site.

I thought it was ok, as has been previously said it was better than most of the other junk piped into our living rooms. I personally liked the old fella with the explosives. But then in the next few minutes they had a mobile sawmill on site so a bit confused of their need for him.

Awfull programme and an even more awfull presenter. i can't stand that arrogant oaf Mcloud who has now demonstrated for all to see that he, as a critic and presenter of grand designs, cannot practice what he so badly preaches. To say this programme is far better to watch than the X factor unfortunatly shows that given the non manditory choice of eating s**t or v***t there are always some who will make a choice and make do. How sad.

Just watched it myself last night. Ok, he didn't stick to his mantra of recycled rubbish and the woods providing everything but I enjoyed it anyway. Of course it isn't going to be to everybody's taste but it was still worth watching in my opinion. Typical to see it get slated in a thread on the internet though! I'm sure we could all do better but the reality is we aren't...

I was a bit disappointed not to see him doing more of the work. But he'd did say at the start he wasn't the practical type.

The fat islands were disgusting and seemed like space filler to me. He'd be better buying in the biodiesel. Imo.

I will watch the next episode but might not finish the series. Bring back dick Strawbridge and its not easy being green!

All got a bit worthy though did INEBG - liked the first series but it went downhill. Can't bear "preachy" "celebs" - rather like HFW was great in "cook on the wild side" and even the original "River Cottage" - its gone downhill from there for me. Real people doing real things without all the moralistic hype about saving the planet (whilst the crew chow down on burgers from the catering van) suits me much better.

aaaaand relax...

aaaaand relax...

Hopefully you can see my point though but agree to chill out on the subject. I'm hoping that if you or i were embarking on such a project as a platform of influence that we would embark with a little or alot more integrity ;-). Do it honesly and properly or don't try to con us that what was proclaimed as a project of gret interest and worth is rather another of these next to useless celebrity platforms trying to get into the scene, woops there i go again, soz.

I thought it was quite good but more entertainment than educational. Ive been wanting to build a small hut so gave me a slight bit of inspiration. The fat islands where disgusting.:(

I enjoyed it :)
Imagine the work involved in that oak by hand.. I would have voted petrol or powder. Lovely looking timber that.

Another one that enjoyed it here.

No idea who the bloke was, but i thought he did pretty well with the resources available.

I think some here take themselves a bit to seriously, for me he built his little shed and had fun doing it.
End of the day it's his woods, his shed and his program so it's really up to him how he does it.

I think from the editing it removed a LOT of hardwork the bloke put in, so good on him

I was very disappointed in the programme as I've seen many of Kevin's other programmes and expected far more. It seemed like the original idea had been rushed out and it would have been much better if they're taken their time a bit.

The most annoying bit was when he said something like it wasn't a vanity project when it came across as exactly that.

Seems that those with certain expectations were disappointed and those like myself that had absolutely no idea who the guy was simply took it at face value, a fairly entertaining show.
