Have wannabe sailors (hammockers) replaced veggies as the people with the most annoying anti-social habit? I tried to organise an overnight trip in the mountains and had a few people pull out as there was nowhere to hang their hammocks!!:)

No

Hammockers are the wise & enlightend few that will lead the camping masses to sleep off the ground & take their beds to the trees.

I have a hammock, I also have a tent. Which I use depends on the suspension points (trees) available.
Also that I don't currently own an underblanket but do have a thermarest

Lol, that's a pretty lame excuse for not getting out.

I'm happy on the deck but if there's trees I'm hanging

Could it just be that they don't have the kit for the 'no tree' environment?

Is it time to eat the veggies and the Greens then? :D :p

Fruitarians eat only fruit,
Vegetarians eat only vegetables,

FEAR the Humanitarians!

I've re-discovered an ancient outdoors shelter known as a 'tent'. Lighter and more weatherproof than a hammock and can be used in nearly all environments. It'll make the hammock obsolete!

The old man isnt keen on sleeping on the ground as it makes his various dicky joints he has spent a life time collecting hurt. He will ground dwell as there is some really wild places there is no trees.

Wonder if anyone's done a study on the protein quotient of blowfly larvae on cowpats however ? and if you then add in the methane from one of those cowdug fueled gas vats that the Indians are using.......does the 20 folks vs one cow value still stand ? :dunno:

The veggies won't eat the larvae though :)

I have told vegans I am teaching mushroom foraging to "insect protein is unaviodable".

OP really wild places rarely have trees, and often have blustering wet gales. you are in wales whatever the weather it is raining. I agree with you about tents.

I'm off with the lads swinging for the weekend seems to raise more eyebrows than I'm off camping... Although in these current times, the latter may raise a brow or three too :p

Ground or air, it's all good by me ~ and, let's face it, most hammocks can be used on the ground if the situation requires it.

If those who don't want to ground dwell were to organize an overnighter where using a tent wasn't feasible, would you go and buy a hammock for what might be a one off use?
