Seems the £10 buy back scheme had some problems, seems they only expected <1,000 to be handed in. A wholesaler handed in 35,871.

It's crazy isn't it?
You can't legislate away knife crime, any more than you can accidents caused by speeding or being on your phone while driving. There will always be idiots who ignore the law, and feel entitled to do so.
Knife crime is becoming a scary epidemic though, so what is the solution? I've seen so many interviews of kids saying they carry knives to feel safe. I think we need more education in schools to start with. Where we go from there is anybodies guess, tho I do have one solution, but it would be considered far too political for this forum.

I'd be really interested to know how they came up with their projected number of surrendered knives and what it means for how pointless they thought it all was.

Another thing is banning features obviously isn't going to work, as all it does is put pressure on making knives without them, and they'll end up even cheaper.

"From then it will be illegal to own a knife with a sharpened blade longer than 8in (20cm), if it also has other features, including:
  • A serrated cutting edge
  • More than one hole in the blade
  • Spikes
  • More than two sharp points in the blade"

So taking a steak knife to eat my meal, or prepare it, is technically out then?
I've got table knives that are more than 8 inches, they have about an inch of poorly serrated and to call the rest "sharpened" is stretching the truth, they're barely that.
