Monday was very sunny and warm,i was in a lot of pain so couldn't walk, far but i had to get out.
i alternatively sit on the bench [thank you RSPB] then stand just in the woods to observe the feeder and the trees around.
slowly over time i have picked up the habits and things of the birds and wildlife around me.
the woodpecker is very difficult he skits very easy and always stays on the far side of the feeder hes aware where the path is people walk in on.
i can predict now where he will go if he gets spooked.
some of these are big crops they are small birds.
i prefer in the trees shots to the feeder.
there are wooden posts around i place peanuts on them which they love and gets them close to me[sometimes]

one of 2 robins always chasing each other around they usually come over and say hello.

this was very hard hes normally the far side of the branch peering round at me.focusing thought the branches and getting a clear shot takes some luck as well.

i have come to think of this as my bench it makes it just that bit easier for me.

thanks,i always appreciate comments either way,it makes you try harder. :)

the first thing i learnt on a american photo site was the dreaded NFD [no feather detail].all my first pics where NFD. :D

Certainly a female spotted woodpecker (males have a red head flash). The small size just might mean a Lesser spotted - unlikely given their rarity and I'll let a better brain call that

That last shot of the woodpecker is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

According to my trusty bird book, that's an adult female greater spotted woodpecker, as there is no red on the head.

thanks barn[y] can you tell me anything about the woodpecker male/female? etc.

The male has the red spot behind the head.

Juveniles have red all over the head if you see one in the Summer.

Both sexes 'drum' on dead wood.

Their call is a loud 'chick' as they fly.

The 'drum' is on average 14 beats per second.
