Looking through the old threads about this it's not as simple as I thought. Getting a consensus of people to contribute may prove too difficult.

If you're looking to purchase woodland by yourself I'd budget approx. 10-30K for anywhere between 1 and 15 acre's, depending where in the country this would be situated. You can then basically do whatever you wish on this land!

hmmm.... i think just getting a plot somewhere and making the most of it yourself or actually having an area thats ok to make a managed 'wild' campsite are the best options.... think it'll be on the 'work in progress' pile. running an expanding wild campsite would make a fantastic career...hmmm...

I'm going to Poland in summer 07, hopefully there'll be some good sport to be had there with little restriction.

the frustrating thing about all this is that the folk on this site are the ones most likely to look after the forest and get the most out of it. old ground for bcuk i guess...and very well trodden!

Well, I have some land and would love to have someone come and teach a class.

Plenty of wild area around here and even hunting with the proper permits (for visitors, none required for landowner here).

Travel seems to be a major factor though! Always something in the way of fun. :(

You can all come and camp on our land, on a regular basis if you like...representing BCUK if you like...but you have to pay a conservation fee of £5.00 per adult plus money for firewood.
You here these comments all the time...'the land belongs to us'...true to an extent, but woodlands and grasslands do not look after themselves, hence I charge. £5.00 per visit, or £3000-£5000 per acre..how's your cashflow?
To coppice and layer 10m by 10m of hazel cost me 2 mandays, and has yet to be planted at extra cost where it needs it. If I'm lucky and still fit in 8-10 yrs time, I may find a market for the produce once I can cut it. Without this, wildlife in the woodland suffers. Who do you think should pay to do this and then who should pay to benefit from the result?
Pleany of discussions like this and a warm welcome at www.yellowwood.co.uk

I'd love to come across, but I had problems getting into the USA earlier on in the year. I got married in SF and they only just let me in the country -after I spend about a month getting a visa as well :(

It sounds perfect and certainly £5 squid per night is not going to break the bank.

The only issue i have is the geography im well confused "The hills of Wales are close by" i thought herefordshire was up near sunderland way ?

Someone please put me out of my stupidity

Will have to check out why people can't find us...! just PM me if you want to come and stay as it's bookings only...otherwise pretty informal.
Those of you Manchester/Chester way (I'm a Cheshire lad man and boy) can get a train from Chester or Manchester Piccadily almost straight to Leominster where we can pick up or carry on to Hereford to get the bus/taxi.
If you have visited that site at Delamere/Sandiway advertised on another thread, then I was a scout there, and it's the sort of site we are developing here (careful what I say...a lot might have changed there in 30 years!)

Your right Dwardo. I have just put Herefordshire in Google Earth and it comes up to the right of Durham near somewhere called Dragonville. Strange...

Have just put Loch Achray in and it comes up as somewhere between Glasgow and Bellshill. Most odd...

It is really a nice idea. Being from Brazil, I still don't get clearly enough how you guys here in the UK manage to find suitable places.
I am living at Manchester with my wife, and we were thinking of possible places to camp and do stuff.
Thanks for the offer. ATB
