We have a dedicated waste stream at work for wooden crates, not standard sized pallets, but crates custom built for what we ordered. We get mountians of them taken away every year, but to me it looks like good wood that could be used for other things!

Does anyone have any ideas what we as a business could do with it rather than it going away in a skip for probably land fill!

give it to the local scouts or such like, they can chop it up into bundles of kindling and flog it at carboot sales for 2 quid a time.

Making things from the pallet is the most unlikley thing to happen, we have a retail business to run from the site, just getting rid of the wood is my interest! I do like the idea of freecycle though! it might just find someone who has a use for it!!

There's a company down Yorkshire that recycle pallets n crates. It gets turned into flooring for riding schools. They have specialist plant that removes nails etc.

Wooden crates are always in demand round here for people to store their firewood in - I'm sure different sizes would suit different people. I would happily take a dozen if I were closer

I built a shed for the allotment. Plus raised beds, fencing etc. Also gave loads away to the other plot holders. There's always a demand for this sort of thing and there always grateful.

Guys these are not crates or standard pallets or I would have no bother getting rid of them! they are custom build transport crates/pallets specific to what we have delivered rendering them useless for anything other than their intended use, the only useful fact is the substrate is wood!

If they are boxes with lids, attatch leather handles and advertise them as wannigans and charge £100 each for them, they'll fly out.

I guarantee any wood that is taken away in a skip will not end up in landfill it's a far to expensive option as it will incur the £70 odd a tonne landfill tax. It will more thans likely end up being recycled and turned into stirlingboard or MDF, maybe burnt for energy from waste.
