Wood I.D - any ideas

Hi all, a neighbour just donated some branches from a small tree/bush he cut down but neither of us know what it is.

I only have the branches as the foliage went to the dump before I could take a pic, I'm thinking of making some spoons with it, any ideas on what it is?

by the first sight of it I would think it is some kind of poplar (which should carve excellently).

either poplar or a young silver birch. tricky to tell from the 1 pic mind.
