Spent some time in the woods over the weekend, and practsied making withies.
Had most success with hazel, the willow seemed to have some slimy substance under the outer bark, which made twisting the actual wood fibres a lot harder than the hazel.
My question is; can withies be made in winter? Or is it best in warmer months only?
What a superb resource. I made a tripd to suspend a kettle over the fire, using withies to lash it together and provide a hook to hang the pot from. Marvellous. Its great when u learn something new
cheers
