Keep a piece of "test wood" handy for intermediate testing of shape and sharp.

Are you sure that's an enzo blade? I've not seen any with the handle shaped liked that, with the bump sitting between the first and second finger.

Lots of better knifes are made in Scandinavia then the Spanish (?) made Casström knife designed by L. Fält
Or Fällkniven designed ones.
Even Finland has some excellent knife manufacturers.

Actually the more I look at other Enzo Trapper blades the more I think mine is just a cheap knock off, as the Enzo ones have that stamped into the steel, and they are shaped differently at the base of the handle.

The reason I was looking at the Lars Falt one is I like that design and its seem to be a reasonable price compared to other similar shaped ones (about £130).

I'd hold fire on that purchase, if I were you; you can buy/have made a seriously good tool for that money. Many of the makers here would be pleased to sort you something very good for that price, but you need to take your time and identify as precisely as possible what what type of knife you would really use and really like.

You're obviously putting a good deal of thought into this, and that's a good thing.

see if you can handle every knife you see at meet ups etc so you can get more of an idea of what you like . not just looks but things like 2,2.5,3,3.5,4+mm blade thickness, palm swell and the handle length. a difference of 10mm can change the way a knife feels in the hand drastically.
in many ways this is the fun bit as you get to decide!

The Kestrel Constant will give you a good sense of the necessary size of the handle to fit your hand.
For all of my knives: straight or crooked as well as the elbow and D adze handles, I need to begin with a blank
of 7/8" square. There's a big difference going 1/8" up or down that I don't like.

I am with Stew ... the ricasso on that looks big for an Enzo ... which one is it? Maybe it is the camera angle

Thinking about it I probably made the knife wrong (it was my first try), I should have shaped the scales so they continued a lot further and were only a few mm away from the start of the cutting edge, rather than leaving a good inch or so like I did.

I guess I could always re-handle it, instead of spending a wedge on a new one (that'll keep swmbo happy)!
