I've come across several trees with apples, they are very bitter and they were near pathways, I've known them as crab apples, does anyone know the real name? So I can look at it on Plants For A Future.

Found it, sorry, close/delete thread.

My mum uses them as decorations for some of the dishes. Never known anyone eating them. Very bitter. Look around for some "mixed" species of domestic apple and wild. They're small apples but "edible"... We used to pick them and sell for company that makes jam. ;)

I can eat them raw, but if you smoke them with a fire or something like that they taste much better said by Ray Mears.
