Why the red coat?
You may have noted that, for his recent wedding Prince William chose to wear the famous redcoat of the British infantry. During the eighteenth century wars with France a British colonel was captured by the French and interrogated by their senior officer. Finally the general enquired "Why is it that you perfidious Anglais wear ze redcoat, as it makes such a perfect mark for our muskets ?".
With typical sangfroid the officer replied "Well old chap, we wear red so, should an officer be wounded and the blood flow, his men will not be disheartened by the sight, he simply grits his teeth and carries on, its just what we English do."
The French general pondered and that is the reason why, from that moment on, the French officer class always wore brown trousers.
