There are numerous references to to Roman folders but Romans also knew the small utility knife. As most research articles are behind a pay wall I have no idea about their comments. But almost all sources claim that Romans did not have pockets and how they carried small everyday objects is apparently not well known. So "carried discretely" but where and how, especially as carrying a small fixed blade knife is hardly any less discrete.
THe Romans carried things in folds in Togas, Sashes, and arm 'pouches' worn under their clothing. They wore belts made of cloth which again were folded and used to carry items.

Vikings were a much later phenomenon, I thought that all of Misty Isles would know that having been the target of one of the first viking raids. Apparently they used still the small utility knife even though they had a few types of folders. Maybe the usage was something like today, based on various things.
One of the first Viking raids? Lindisfarne might have been the first Viking raid here, but they were raiding for hundreds of years before that, Just not westwards. They followed coastlines. They didnt cross seas. Very sensible of them really.

The Germanic tribes are the ancestors of the Vikings.

The Germanic tribes are the ancestors of the Vikings.
And also the Anglo Saxons... While some of the Vikings became the Normans... meaning the Germans became vikings then Normans, and the Anglo Saxons... Then the Normans who were Vikings, who were Germans, fought the Anglo Saxons, who were German, went on to create a country who would Be ruled by Germans, and then go on to fight other Germans in 2 world wars

I have a question... Why don't Germans like Germans?

Reckon we got the cartoon wrong. Shouldnt have been Tom and Jerry. Should have been Gerry and Jerry.

Apparently Lindisfarne was not the first but yes other raids are known here and there starting about a century before. Records seem to be slightly incomplete thereabouts.

Yes they were and most Englishmen as well. The nordic germanic tribes from Danes upwards developed into Vikings though Goths escaped early on. For some reason "Germanic tribes" seems to mostly include the southern tribes in articles especially after Vikings became Vikings. I must admit that is not really my field. Some archaeologist or historian might comment.
