Here they are known as Whiskey Jacks. These little guys are great fun. When you're alone in the bush they are always nearby to keep you company.

Quite easy to tame, they can entertain you for hours.

A bit of food, anything at all as they aren't fussy, will have them soon becoming your best friend

They are an amazing bird. After becoming very tame they will actually come to you the moment you step out the cabin door, looking for whatever you may have in hand for them.
In fact, if you are a smoker, caution is needed in the summer as a cigarette looks an awful lot like food. They will try to snatch your cigarette right out of your fingers. Try explaining that a forest fire was caused by a Whiskey Jack after they tuck it behind a piece of bark!

I'm loving that. We have what we call Jays over here but you can't get near them. I saw 3 at the weekend but they soon flew off when I appeared.

Arent they fun? I wish we had birds like that here.

There are park birds that are very tame, but they are used to humans constantly around and even then, few will eat out of your hand.

Grey Owl wrote a lot about them
