Still looking for one that's big enough for my bonce, all the one-size-fits-all ones that I've got or tried are just too tight and uncomfortable, ideas welcome !

Been wondering what the point of the jeep style ones is with the little peak thing at the front, doesn't look big enough to do anything, or maybe it does ?

Cheers, Paul

Aren't they based on the watch caps the Americans used to wear under their battle helmets circa WWII? Always thought the mini peak stopped drips rolling off of the helmet into the eyes. Could be wrong.

Have just had wee wiki-peak and thought I'd put the link HERE

Ahh spent many a quickly darkrning afternoon hanging from a set of axe picks while one of those hats iced up on my head - kept me toasty though.

I used to have a red one of these until the moths turned it into some sort of colander. It was brilliant and very warm. It's really good to know that they're still making them and at a really competitive price, too.

They are good, I'm not keen on woolen hats generally as they lose shape in the wet, not these bunnets though, folded as I wear mine they're great wet frozen or dry, has to be proper cold though, otherwise they're too hot. In my day they were standard climbing/hill kit and being old school they still are for me. I still have a good one, plus a brand new spare ;)

A lack of go faster stripes and being made from non technical boring material, wool (so last century), means they're a vanishing resource and there are now very few places stocking these and thats making them hard to find. Good old Joe Brown is still flogging them though. @ £17.50 I can't understand why they're not more popular than they seem to be these days, sometimes simple is best.

Whatever the Esso Garage is selling on whatever cold day I forget my hat. I have several, all the same with the thinsulate lining. Doubt I've paid more than three quid for any of them.

US Army 100% wool watch cap from the Bushcraft Store

One of these arrived today. Seems like a really good hat. I read northumbrian's comment about them shrinking. The label in mine says to dry clean (though it would be cheaper to buy a new one!) or hand wash in lukewarm water so I guess they can't be machine washed at all. Anyway, I've always found my possum beanie too hot for hiking, and my other beanies are acrylic which I find warm enough, but not so good if they get wet. Looking forward to having a nice wool hat on my head this winter :)

I have one of these and they are great value for money. I've never needed to wash it so can't comment on whether it will shrink. They are hard wearing, about £6.00 on Eblag and now both my boys have them as well so they could look like daddy. Best thing is that I am not worried about losing it as it is only cheap.

I have the Ray possum jobby. I like it for sleeping in but seldom use it beyond that. I find it too baggy though and it always falls off in the night. Im in the planning stages of making a down hood to sleep in so it will stay on

I have a lovely Icebreaker Pocket Hat in lightweight 200gm merino. Toasty warmth to weight ratio and fits away to nothing. Plus it's not to tight or sloppy on the head. Great hat.

These are mine...

2 x icebreaker (the thinner reversible one used least)

1 x Sherpa Adventure (I brought quite a few back from Nepal but neglected to make sure I kept one for myself so this was the next best thing from my wife last Christmas)
