Where have all the Swallows gone?

Great piece on swallows on radio 4 "saving species" today. Lots of good facts like the African village that used to take 200,0000 swallows each winter. 3 dead swallows sold for 50p which presumably is quite a lot. Our Swallows go to winter in South Africa where German Swallows stay further North. Plenty flying around the Montrose area yesterday but only a handful 12 miles inland from there.
Another nice day up here so hopefully they will be there when I get home from work.
