What's your go-to Spyderco?

I think after experiencing nice, thick, rounded handle scales on other knives, the blocky slabs on most Spydercos feel starkly inferior. That said, how often do you use a knife for more than a minute? In which case that level of comfort isn't a huge issue.

I have a Resilience and it's been borderline abused but there's no play in the lock, no rust and it's fantastic as a kitchen knife.

I have a spyderco myself - forget the model.

So what is it that makes us like them?? When compared to the vast amount of other bladed tools out there? Is it just the easy to deploy over sized thumb hole?

Different for everyone, but I really enjoy trying out different steels...I use my knives every day. I have been using my K390 as a Stanley knife to cut celoxtec insolation as well as food prep.

Cutting the foam foil backed insolation is really hard on the edge, and I have been doing kilometres of cuts, and on comparison to my 440c knife I also use. It cuts 4 to 5 times as long...

As trashcanman says they do an extremely broad range of steels in a lot of patterns, which is really unusual for a production knife company. I also like that they push the boat out on some really odd designs and don't just stick to what they know will sell. I've had good customer support from them too when I've stripped hardwear even on knives that are 30+years old and I'm openly not the original owner.

I like the cut of their jib too in terms of how they credit other people's innovations when incorporated in their designs, whereas plenty of other companies claim they've invented it themselves and give it some proprietary name.

But they are expensive. But I think worth it.

I quite liked this thread! Please don’t click if you’re not into hunting! A well used spydie

Haven’t heard from Ben Xavierdoc in ages, he stopped posting here and another forum. He likes the Resilience, but he did a gralloch with a UKPK once too.

It’s a good knife, but maybe it was just mine that had a loose detent, I cut myself once putting my hand in my pocket after jumping a stream because the blade had opened, and nearly a second time reaching into a rucksack I’d just dropped on the ground.

That was an often reported problem with the Tenacious model too, but many years ago now. Given the Resilience is like an XL Tenacious it's not surprising.

I think they sorted it though, don't hear many complaints about those now. But they're also twice the price of what they used to be back in the crap detent days.

I have a Native 5 in m4 which is an absolute workhorse, but for more mundane stuff a serrated UKPK salt lightweight in lc200n has proved a winner. As a fidget toy the Smock can’t be beaten!

After having a few over the years I’ve only got one Urban left. I had a couple rescaled in Jabroc a few years ago. I sold the other one , a UKPK, a while ago & think I will probably let the Urban go as well.
The blade has been etched on it too. Let me know if you fancy one.IMG_4575.jpeg
