I've just found out that I'll be spending a week in stokholm next march. I thought it might be a good opportunity to get some good gear.
Any suggestions?

Sthlm is expensive (and a real dump). If you try to go for more traditional stuff you will most likely get ripped off. Beware, stockholmers are kind of rude and superficial.

Some stuff may be cheaper than in the UK but mostly we have about the same pricelevel. What are you looking for?

Inner, outer or middle layer? Wool, down, fleece? Pants, Jackets, Shoes? Mittens?

There is a fjällräven outlet outside Sthlm, you could find some good things there, between 30 to 70 % discount.

Oooh yeah! Fjallraven rocks! They are expensive elsewhere so fill your boots. Wish I was going there, now.

That sounds great. Do you know where exactly? As for your question, I'm a big fan of wool and could do with every kind of layer, some nice mittens would be nice too.

Here is the official homepage. Unfortunatly there are no english pages for the shops. In the old city there is a lot of expensive stores that sell typical swedish stuff, like knitwear and lovika mittens. Tourist rip-off warning though.

There are some outdoor stores as well, that usually have a lot of winter stuff. Naturkompaniet (the stores in stockholm) have a good selection, but are on the expensive side. Then there's addnature, which sometimes have good campaign items for sale, but they usually have quite narrow selection, which aren't as rugged as you'd maybe like. The site frontpage states two different addresses, the second address is there outlet which sometimes have 40-70% under rrp. Then there's a shop that only sells backpacks (called säck, or sack in english), and another called kängspecialisten (the boot specialist) which only have boots. Those two stores are kind of cool.

"Sthlm is expensive (and a real dump)." hey big Swede are you from Gotteborge by any chance? Personally i think Stockholm is great but them so is London to visit as a tourist.

How many capital cities do you know with clean enough water and beaches you can swim on? My highlights would include a visit to Vasa and Skansan the open air ethnographic museum. If you are booking your own accommodation I would recommend two youth hostels, fave is on a tall ship af chapman moored right in the centre and another in an old prison on Langholmen. very reasonable but have to book a long way in advance particularly for the chapman.

Wait until someone from Stockholm learn about your opinion of people from there. Never mind the inhabitants and their behaviour. Mind all stuff to look at. All museums, buildings (the old city directly south of the royal castle). And don´t forget, ALL girls NOT working as a weather girl yet.... /Mimung

Silkstone, Blighty!
All scandinavian chicks are babes! I sailed to Denmark once, it was full of beautiful women, not a pig amongst them! I hear they all get shot at birth! Top one for me was a blonde thing running around the bar in a skin tight Superman t-shirt. I'll never forget her!

1- My Experience is that Stockholm is an amazing place and that the inhabitants are are generally very nice and helpful so don't be put off. The only rudeness i saw is when a Brassy English man cut me in the q at the train station, he was curtly dealt with. So like any where just be your usual nice self...

2- the city is teeming with outdoor shops on every corner, look for the bands which are hard to come by hear and pick them up, Fjällräven are a good brand and there trousers are good. so just have a browse and see what you need...

3- Book into city backpackers hostel if you can, its in the central Stockholm, free pasta and web and very well run, and cheap, under €10 a night. though i could be mistaken.

4- See the war museum and theres lots of good attractions.

Hope that helped..
