Wool is good for all but the hot weather, just get lighter-weight fabric for Spring/Summer............But Linen is your friend here, or Hemp, both good cool fabrics for warm and hot weather. Well worth sourcing and paying the premium for good quality Linen.

Think its too broad a term "seasons" in the UK at the minute. We are only just having a proper frost and winter is almost over.
Synthetic outers for the hills or real rain and naturals for the woods and bimbling.

It depends on weather ;) What's the weather like in San Diego and how does it change through the year?

There's an old adage which runs something like 'There's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing choice'. Perhaps the reverse is true ~ 'There's no such thing as poor clothing choice, just lack of appropriate thought to weather'?

Actually, a lightweight wool jumper, perhaps a 'V' neck is very comfortable to wear even in warmer weather. Standard kit for parts of Africa was a cotton shirt and lightweight jumper over the top; when the evenings cool add a layer and the principle is the same anywhere just balance your layers according to the climate.
